Snowing intermittently in the greater Boston area today. Ugh. Worse than running in the rain yesterday.

The official start of trainer season....

Had a good 40 mile ride this AM. Cold here. 50's and 60's. 30% humidity. Not a cloud in the sky.

My riding buddy this AM was from NYC. Financial district. He'll never go back. Couldn't pry him out of here with a crow bar. Don't think he'll even go back for a visit.

Don't know much about that part of the country in the fall/winter, but it looks bad @ foxbourgh for the game!
Stay safe and warm.

PS; Was cold here this morning as well. 49 and now @ 1 it's almost 70!:p

And it's still really blustery. Cold I can handle with the Michelin man outfit, but the wind ain't fun on a 16 lb climbing machine.

Live on North Shore of MA, returned last night from a week's vacation on the NC Outer Banks. Weather was perfect there, mild and sunny. As a southerner, now why did I marry a Boston Native for this junk?

holy crap. don't know what's more impressive, the amount or the fact that they could keep up with it. Where did they put whatever they plowed?

You think so? I'd rather run in snow than rain any day of the week.

Not being snarky, just mildly curious. Having moved from Utah at 6000' to Seattle at sea level, I found the Utah winters a lot easier to train through. 'Cross bike, mountain bike, snowshoeing, X-C ski. Snow/cold/sun are -- to me -- a lot better than 35-45 degrees and rain/grey.

Snow is fun if you embrace it. Get all the gear, snow bikes, skis, snow shoes and of course snow's for the car!

Then it's a blast.

My experience with fat bikes was meh. Packed trails can be done just fine on my regular mountain bike. Perhaps they excel in ~6" stuff, but then that's too much work and you're going about as fast as hiking. I typically just ride my road bike with fenders all winter long. Studs, if condition calls for it.

I bought a cheap snowbike (motobecane from bikesdirect.com). When April came, I was thinking, "where did my winter go? I need another snow storm."

In Leadville CO (a short drive from Pueblo) they have snowbike races.

It is great in the mountains, no questions.

But here in New England we have this special wet cold that chills my bones. I'm far happier working out at 35-45 than 25-35...

Then there is the whole what to wear thing when riding a bike in these conditions. Knickers are too cold, full fleece tights are too hot. Layer on Layer off. Climb the hill you are soaked go down it you freeze.

At 35-45 degrees in the rain I can run with shorts a long top and a raincoat and be perfectly comfortable and balanced...

I spent my snowy sunday putting new brakes and fat tires on my trusty old Bridgestone MB2. Next weekend I'll try the off road thing...

Huh. Looks like the end of our driveway in early March.

So far the plow driver has turned down every offer (short of our firstborn child) to stop plowing us in… :help:

No debris up here north of town, but had to dodge some rather large ice patches this morning.

We had 2 large trees within a mile of us come down and take power lines with it yet we didnt lose power.

I'm going into the woods this afternoon because there are so many branches etc... on the roads this morning, looks like a war zone.

Embrace it/race cross. I can't wait for the first snowy CX race. Still looking forward to a seriously muddy one. Was bummed when the snow moved east of Northampton this weekend.

Yeah, watched the Elites, wasn't able to make it out there for the 4/5 race though. I was jealous. I should specify, first muddy race I can make it too. Sunday was still a ton of fun.

Ice Cream Truck.

Why? Besides hating on Special-ed, the Fatboy is a whole lot lighter and cheaper. I'd swap it to Shimano 1x10.

I'd probably go Pugsley though, tried and true, threaded BB, 135mm hubs.

I'll be riding my neighbor's Mukluk to work tomorrow if this forecast holds true.
