View Full Version : Rim Choice for my new Powertap hub

I have the hub coming and I want to get a nice all around rim(s) to go with it.
I think I know the choices but before buy them I wondered what you folks would use. I want an all around wheel that I can occasionally race with. I do understand that this is not an ideal race wheel but I am not an ideal racer so we will get along ok.
Its a 32 for longevity. I am running an offset A23 now and like it but perhaps I could do better?
Thoughts?

Hed Belgium or Belgium + are pretty sweet rims, I'm very much enjoying my pair of 23mm Belgiums. I have an 18/24h pair, but I'm sure they'll feel similarly nice with 32 spokes.
SL23s are nice, too, as are Archetypes (or so my friend with a pair tells me).

I've had all 4 of these, I'd rank them in order:
HED Belgium, SL23, Archetype, A23.
I built them all myself except the HED, SL23 built up the easiest and was a little bit lighter than the Archetype. A23 quality and finish didn't seem quite as nice. HED was easiest for mounting tires.

What's on the front?

I've enjoyed and abused the pacenti rims but had to buy an alloy tire lever just to change a flat. trashed 2 quikstik's before I gave in. comforting that I could flat and be confident I would lose the tire off the side immediately though.

I am just going get the same but likely a 28 hole. I have to get a hub for that.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going with the SL23 due to popular opinion.

So it looks iike I will get the Pacenti but what front hub should I get? Something simple and black. I don't think the Pacenti hubs are available yet.

I agree with the Pacenti choice. I have their hub also, it is nice.

superlight or ultralight. awesome hubs and very well priced, plus brandon @ BHS is a great seller!

I like the Powertap front hub, basic sealed bearing hub, and it matches the rear.

I kind of like the matching thing but was unsure if it was junk.

the UL is basically a knock-off of the amclassic micro 58. the SL is a teensy bit heavier interpretation.

I got the Powertap front hub that matched my SL+. It is ok. But I went for an ultegra hub with my G3 set and like it a lot more...
