I may be the only one this happens to but I'm guessing not. I typically use a wax compound to oil my chain and I do my best to clean off the surplus with a rag. Even so, I often get spray onto my rear wheel which I have found difficult to clean off quickly.
The othe day I tried using Autoglym automobile wheel cleaner...well, worked like a charm and no harm done to my aluminium rims. Give it a go if you have the same issue - it also helps clean brake dust off car rims, of course...
