53t/39t works with 11-28 10 speed?

Will 53t/39t works with 11-28 10 speed? My friend ask me that question,,,,I never try that,,anybody?

no reason it shouldn't unless the previous cassette was smaller and there's not enough chain length.

I'm running 12-30 with a 53/39. I'm sure 11-28 will work. Standard da rear derailleur. Not long cage.

My set up accepts that aggressive cross. But I rarely... Probably never use 53t front and 30t rear.

where's the 30t? first post says 53/39 and 10-28t. i've ridden that combo many times without issues, both shimano and sram drivetrains, cross-chained no issues.

if it's got a 30t at the top of the cassette then might need a 'mid' or long cage rear der.

since you've not said what component group it is or i missed it, we're all spitballin' with minimal info.

I run a 12-30 for training then swap to race wheels with 12-23 for crit days. No prob with a 53/39 crank.

Live actual experience with 7800 analogue or 6770 digital.

7900 on my go fast bike. 39/53 and I go from 12/23, 12/25, 12/27 (IRD), and 11/28. All with the same chain. Ultegra cassettes but for the 12/27 and it is all good.

Of course, proper length chain, not too long, certainly not too short..no need for a long cage or anything like that.

I am running a 12-28 Camapagnolo Chorus on my Serrota Legend Ti with a short cage. Just had to lengthen the chain a bit when switched over from another ride.
My old school wrench buddy says 28 is about the max for a short cage with Campy.

Ran a Campagnolo 13-29 with short cage, 10s on a demo bike, then a 12-30..short cage, no issue. Just make sure chain is long enough for big-big w/o breaking the chain..no shorter, no longer.

You should be fine. I'm running 53/39 and 12-30 10 speed on a short cage 6700 RD. No issues whatsoever.

It's not any different than any other combination of 11-28 and front crankset with rings 14 teeth apart. Just get chain length correct.
