I've had two road bike accidents in my adult life. Both of these were on my Yokota legend, one of them was today.

I'm in the twin cities and netdewt and I did a 40 mile ride, mostly on gravel. At exactly the turn around point on the out and back, I was looking everywhere but the trail (blacktop at this point) and didn't realize the freshly fallen leaves obscured about a 6in drop off the side of the trail. Needless to say, my front wheel dropped off the trail and turned sideways faster than I could think. Being that it is fixed gear, momentum just kept going. I went over the bars and had plenty of time to think about my chin impacting the surface below...

Equipment damage:
Scuffed up shoe
Hole in palm of glove
Marks on both Campagnolo brake levers. surprisingly not bad, but enough to be an annoying reminder of my stupidity.

Bodily damage:
Cut on left thigh
Top tube wide welt on left thigh
Cut on right shin
Welt on right chin
Odd red spot on shoulder
Raw spot on chin
Loose flap of skin on knuckle. I was wearing full finger gloves. No damage to the knuckle of the glove and no damage the corresponds to the hole in the glove.

Lesson:
Complacency hurts
Fuel up before you ride (different story)

Oh, a squirrel also ran out in front of us shortly after I got it's tail...

Ouch
It could always be worse. Just a moment of inattention and dang.
Hope you heal up soon.

The physical wounds are not a big deal. It's the wound to my pride.

I wouldn't think twice about similar injuries from off-road antics.

You might be right.

Nate thinks I may have a concussion...

Fun ride, though, overall. In hindsight it seems worse to me than it did then. I did mention concussion at one point, but didn't realize you can get one from a chin hit. You seemed perfectly fine for about an hour after the incident.

Yeah, it was only the light flickering that seemed odd. Luckily it wasn't any worse.

You need to get that bike off your house.

Ouch!

Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like a great day up until the bad accident.

Most of it afterwards went alright as well. I even think I got the parts required to fix my old silca.
