Last night was a full moon, it was spectacular. It was in the low 60's the whole time, clear enough that I could shut off the lights when the trail was open. I rode the boardwalk trails in Lexington, the battle loop into Concord and then took the extension of the Minuteman back. The picture is from the boardwalk trail behind the Concord visitors center - even with both lights at full power, none of the pictures from the night ride came out. Gonna have to work on that...

One of the nicest days so far in October here after rain early this morning. Not much fall color yet except for sumac and a few maples. I spent a good part of the afternoon and evening marking roads for Sunday's mixed surface ride. All I can say is autumn riding in this neighborhood looks a lot like mud.

Stay on Greenwich Road (stop for a taste at the winery if that's your thing) into Ware. You will pass Snows Restaurant (good seafood and local beer) on your right. Take the next right on the road that goes through the playing fields. There will be a closed gate at the end but you can ride around it. At the end of the street take a right on 9W. The park entrance is about 3 miles on your right. Take this to the tower. The race finish is about 100m before the rotary.

Nice. Thanks! I'm in Leverett, so would hit 202 from the west (Shutesbury or Amherst/Pelham) and then head North. I know some of those roads from motorcycle rides, but haven't made my way around by bike yet. If I don't get to it this fall, I'll definitely make a point to get around it in the spring. Good on you Kevin. This is a bad time of year for snakes as they seek out the warmest and most deadly spots to warm up (pavement). I can't remember the last time I found one on the road that was still alive.

It's a little difficult to tell from the photo but it's actually a spotted salamander (http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/amphibians/spotted-salamander/), what we used to refer to as a mud puppy. He was just hurrying out onto the busy highway when I rode by. I circled back and took him 5 miles up the road to a pond. I'm a sucker for these little critters and turtles and whatever else I can help that's likely not going to survive in traffic.

I couldn't ID it, but thought it was more likely to be a snake as they have a reason to be on the road -trying to warm up. I've been on my place for 20 years and have only seen one salamander - it was orange. Lots of snakes though.

I did move one turtle off the road this year but was too late for a couple of others.

Thanks. A lot of times when I ride (and we're not hammering) I try to look at the view for future photo opportunities. I'm fortunate that I live were to the south it is built-up (Parsippany- HQ for many companies) and north and west is rural. NW New Jersey looks like Vermont/NH.

I have to admit that at times we take the scenery for granted.

We were 15º above normal here yesterday in the Twin Cities at just over 70º! An absolutely beautiful day to be out even if it was a bit blustery. I did a route (http://kevinandtammy.net/ride/2014_10-16_72_miles.png) I didn't get to finish a few weeks ago so I was glad to be able to finally do that. Lots of beauty to be seen in the fall colors yet.

Nice. I planned to go to Sandy Hook, however had an early flat and lost a little time watching the surfers at Belmar and the L Jetty, needed to get home for the kids sports. The wave were very nice for sure.

Went for a nice 40 yesterday with my buddy Thomas, him on his BMC, me on my Cervelo Prodigy purchased on the forum in 2013, with handbuilt wheels new this year. The leaves are a couple of weeks past their peak, but the roads were dry, and the afternoon temps around 60. Camel's Hump in the first and third shots.

Yes, white bar tape does get dirty. I washed the bike last weekend, and while one of the highlights yesterday was fresh asphalt and no cars (go VDOT), the surface was a little too fresh--my next frame might be a little darker. Thanks to Tai for the bottles.

Some shots from an old friend ride across the valley, one I hadn’t done in awhile. Still hard. Colors less than I thought there would be. Turns out the slopes on my side of valley are much richer in color so far this autumn. Still not like the aspens in Colorado or those fantastical swirls of color the New Englanders enjoy. Around here, depending on the year, most of the trees seem to just do a slow fade into browness with only flashes of sharp-edged yellow, reds, and oranges screaming out their presence. Must admit I do miss those Colorado color shows where the entire aspen forest seems to be choreographed into a massive display of yellow with from time to time pockets of trees going off on some solo riff and exploding into psychedelic reds and oranges. Only lasts a couple of weeks but while the show is on, it’s on all the way. Here autumn is more of a lingering color shift, more interested in subtleties than blatant displays of rampant hedonism.

Just got back from riding on a local trail (Brushy Creek), and had a blast!
I had ridden a shorter section of it in the past with the kids but this time on my own, I went further out and saw some really nice scenery and neighborhood along the way. I also took out my new city cruiser bike on its maiden ride. It's on 700cc wheels and the Panaracer Pasela 35mm rolls a lot smoother than the original knobbies.

These are from a ride 2 weekends ago. The first is a view from Lake James looking towards the Linville Gorge the second is Old Hwy 70 - the main access road used to get to Asheville and the surrounding mountains prior to I-40. It's now closed to pedestrians and cyclists only.

This is a local trail called Setauket Woods. I still have my summer tires on and with all the leaves/needles it is like riding on marbles. Keeps your reflexes sharp.

There are a lot of short steep climbs on this trail. I should have photographed all the wild mountain Laurel that grows here. It stays a bright shiny green all winter. Beautiful area of LI.

Just enjoyed the last hour of fall in Park City-- did a quick mtb loop on local trails while watching the storm come over the mountains 3 miles to the west. Pulled into the driveway just as the snow hit-- lucky timing! Opening day on the ski resort today, will probably avoid the "White Ribbon of Death" (only one run open and lots of early-season crazies), but will probably take a couple runs tomorrow.

OK, I know it's hard to believe...but the fact is I did not ride my bike for the last two days, which arguably were the TWO BEST DAYS out of this thanksgiving week not just for riding but for ANY kind of outdoor activities. It was 75 degrees, sunny, blue sky....talk about unbelievable weather in the month of November. I think it's because I was off since Wednesday. So I rode Wednesday and Friday and the rest of the time I was with family. I could have gone out today I guess...but I decided to Zzzzz...Zzzz...:)
