View Full Version : Ride your SEROTTA and drink some RED in honor of PETE

10-08-2014, 07:47 AM
This weekend, ride your SEROTTA (or whatever bike puts a SMILE on your face) and drink some RED in honor and memory of our dear friend, Serotta_PETE. I'll be riding with the fine folks from Signature, and hopefully others here in the area can join. Rest in peace, Pete.

I'll be there in spirit.

... and the spirits after the ride will definitely be some RED.

Happy, what's your ride plan?

10-08-2014, 08:21 AM
if people are riding on Sunday i'll pull my serotta off the hook for a ride.

Just planning on doing the regular Signature ride, which leaves from the Greenwich shop at 9:00. It's ~25 miles. If you could make it, that would be great! Hopefully Tim P (with his TEMPRANILLO Serotta, if he still has it) and others can make it.

I will put a few miles on my Meivici in honor of Pete this weekend. Gonna miss his posts on the forum. Seemed like a great guy. Matthew

Why wait for the weekend? ;-)

Depends on whether I'm required at a sailing regatta being put on by my boat club . . . . Will find out asap. And I do still have the TEMPRANILLO SEROTTA.

I'll be out in Long Island this weekend with my Legend (Sag Harbor area). Sounds like a nice way to honor Pete. If anyone else it thinking about a memorial ride out that way, PM me. Otherwise I'll be along with y'all in spirit.

I don't have a Serotta but have plenty of fine wine to drink in Pete's memory.

Commitment this weekend prevents, but rode the legend last night and had a jack and coke after.

Will do. Pete was a good guy, and a real cornerstone of this forum over many years. RIP.

I am riding in Maryland but, otherwise, I am in!

I'm taking the cub scouts to Army football on Saturday, but I'll roll out Sunday afternoon and think about Pete.

10-08-2014, 07:28 PM
Won't be able to ride my Meivici this weekend, as I am attending a wedding at a vineyard. Though I will certainly toast Pete there and do him proud.

10-08-2014, 07:45 PM
The Meivici will come out this weekend, followed by a fine red, highlighted by the red leaves of a northern New England autumn. I will be thinking about how to internalize the zen of Pete.

My Serotta Fierte Ti will get a run through the Adelaide Hills this weekend, and I will open a nice Barossa or Coonawarra red in Pete's honour.

Getting my red, white and blue CSi ready to ride in the morning.

How about I ride my Red Serotta here in MD. RIP Mr Pete, you'll be missed :)

Rode my now-coupled CIII today specifically for this thread. I met Pete in Austin IIRC at NAHBS and he was as friendly as could be, as was Ben Serotta. I enjoyed our short encounter and I hope he did too.

It's nothing really, but I did pump up the tires and take the CIII out in his honor this afternoon. He did much for this forum and all of us who enjoy it.

Best tribute to Pete is to remember and emulate how he interacted with someone he didn't know.

Best tribute to Pete is to remember and emulate how he interacted with someone he didn't know. Very true.

I won't be able to ride, wine it is. I don't know what best to say other than that I remember him as a calm, kind soul. And I almost crashed his first ottrott (the day before he was to come pick it up). I rode it on a shakedown ride.

I never told him that. Actually, I never told anyone that.

Here's one for Pete from today's ride.

That looks like a fantastic place to ride.

Rode with my daughter and the Concours.

Pete will be missed!

That looks like a fantastic place to ride.

When I was in HS, it was a fantastic place to get stuck most of the months of the year. You didn't venture down that road unless you were prepared to hike and knew a farmer that would pull you out. There was one road on today's route that is still not driveable, rideable, or probably even walkable when wet. We were lucky to hit it on the driest day of the period.

That never happened to me in high school [/lies]

I realize that this is a bit late notice, but since it was such a wash-out around here last Saturday and the Signature shop ride was cancelled, I'm planning on doing two rides this weekend in Pete's memory. Tomorrow morning's shop ride, and then on Sunday Signature's Fall Foliage Ride to benefit Adopt-a-Dog:

Given that Pete was such a dog lover, it seems only fitting. And I'll be riding my RED Serotta.

I met Pete a few times. He was a great guy. I took my wife to a party last summer where Pete was there and she liked him also.

We have been getting e-mails and texts over the past few days about our brother in law who has gone through procedures for brain cancer recently and is not doing well.

Wanted to tell her about Pete, but so far have not even mentioned it.

10-19-2014, 08:25 PM
Godspeed, Pete.

. . . in other words, just like Pete. We didn't make it to hoisting the Red, but otherwise a fitting memorial. :)
