Just bought this here Look 585 and am having sudden buyers remorse.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231332463732?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I paid $975.

Wondering if the bike may be too old and just wondering what folks thoughts are in general?

Also, I was having trouble finding specs and am wondering what the BB shell will be? Standard 68mm english?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Zac

Hard to put a price on a great frame in your size, that's not made anymore. Throw some parts on that beauty and enjoy it! They're great frames. English bottom bracket, yes. Nothing unusual there. 27.2 seatpost, too. Look got rid of some of their quirky frame designs with the 5-- series.

Relax and just enjoy the ride. It's a classic frame.

if you believe this forum, the 585 is the benchmark for lugged carbon.

have fun with it :)

and yes, threaded 68 mm eng bb.

I wish someone would give me $975 for mine...

Looks like this one is missing the plastic guides on the head tube.

remorse due to price or remorse due to frame?

price - all over the place from $500-1000.

frame - people here love them. its an iconic ride of the genre. plus yours is white - very pro.

..............plus yours is white - very pro.

And says LOOK 16 times, very (?) pro.

Passed on one of these, a few times, and regret it. Chatter is nothing but raves. Build it (with Campy, please) and ride it until it disintegrates.

i have a time from the same era and it's my favorite bike.
not sure what your concern would be regarding the age.
no bb30? great
no isp? greater
no aero tubes? greaterer
no electric wiring? meh

no regrets. that's a sweet frame that i would love to own.

Good to have some experienced folks allay my fears. I love the aesthetic! This will be my first plastic bike. I don't enjoy researching carbon bikes as it's mostly marketing mumbo jumbo.

Can't wait to build it up.

Zac

I have the clearcoat over carbon 585. Love it. I'd say they're good enough to be worth whatever you have to pay to get one. Buying something better for the same $975 would prove difficult. Build ride and enjoy.

No marketing mumbo jumbo here. 585s are the real mcdeal and may change your mind about carbon. 585s are light, comfortable, well-built, and have great handling and responsiveness.

Have fun and let us know what you think once you've had some miles on it.

Nah, build it up with 7800 DA. That's the way Thor would have ridden it! ;)

You will not regret this purchase.

Sure 585s have changed hands for less $…but…you will soon forgot that once you ride it.

Just a great all around frameset…period.

I also have one. Almost the exact same decals. First carbon and probably the last for a while.

Plenty of room for 25s. My 585 (2006, sz L) is currently dressed with Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick 25mm. They measure a full 27mm mounted to H+Son TB14 rims and inflated to 90 psi.

Also. I don't see a braze on for the FD.

Is this a 31.8 or 28.6 clamp on?

Thanks,
Zac

Just last week, not 2 days before I acquired a Tangerine 585, I said out loud to more than one person, "I do not need a Look 585." I made this statement after a 60 mile ride on my Garneau Jittery Joe team bike which is a sweet ride in it's own right. But a local deal presented itself on CL and I took the plunge.

I have been absoultely astounded at the ride quality of the 585. On Sunday I rode about 75 miles with a couple of guys from the forum and have never been so comfortable on a bike for that distance. Time allowing, I could have easily ridden a century and I usually keep things to the 50-60 mile range. Zero pain, zero discomfort...worth every penny.

Nothing but good things to say about my 585. And don't feel like you need to go with Campy. I'm running 7900 (including wheels) and it comes in at exactly 7kg - with Fizik Kium saddle, Deda aluminum bar and stem, and ti Speedplays.

I did have to fiddle with stem length, bar drop, and saddle position for quite a while, but that's to be expected. Once I got it dialed in, it's been a dream.

I bought a 585 Ultra exactly one year ago based on all the raves here and on roadbikereview. Like others, this was my first carbon bike. I LOVE it. It's my main bike now. Built it with Record 11 and gets most of the miles. I liked it so much I picked up a second frameset here on pace line, just in case. I may build that one to be a winter trainer. Don't know. I'm a convert.

Build, ride and enjoy.

PS. and I run Ultremo 25s on it.

PsPs. There's someone selling a LOOK Ergo4 seatpost over in the classifieds if you're looking for one.

Another happy Look 585 (Ultra) owner here. It's my "mountain bike" and is setup with a compact crank. Here's a picture at the top of one of the Six Gaps in Georgia this past summer.

i don't use the setback at all, so the benefit is entirely lost on me :-/

6800 11 speed would be more in my price range.

This is 15.6 pounds with Centaur 10.

FYI, Ribble still has this group at $556.90 and Athena 11 black for $733.49.

I have a 2009 ultra. I'm always amazed at how nice it rides.

English bb. I put on a record UT (replacing a record alloy st), and it really made the driveline feel more connected. Currently run open pave clincher 27 rubber. It measures at about 26.7 and clearance isn't an issue.

Enjoy the frame and ride the snot out of it. It works better the harder it is pushed.

I ride one of those with probably 30K of hard miles (gravel, muddy singletrack, Chicago streets) and it is riding nice.

The only issue is that the driveside BB threading is a bit iffy, but that's not really that big of a deal.

You got yourself a keeper. People always regret selling their 585s.

so i finally rode my 585, and the only way i can describe it is - it's like riding a moots, but it's lighter and springier on climbs.

I preferred the Time VXR personally, but its picking the proverbial fly poop out of the pepper. Both are outstanding bikes.

Ride it and enjoy it.
