my daughter has riding with me occasionally on some shorter rides these past couple of summers. This summer she has started out on her own going on some others local group rides, etc, and even popped up with the idea of riding the 30 mile option at a local club century.

So...CNighbor popped up the PSA for the Jelly Belly jerseys and the idea was planted --- but unfortunately, the ones in her size are all sold out and the new ones are the 'retro' style at $95/ea. Any suggestions on fun/cool jerseys for a young gal???

merino paceline jersey suggestion noted --- not sure its got that young gal appeal though. :)
thanks!

My wife (26) is all about retro jerseys and simple designs.

Twin six has a few great designs but it looks like the ones I was going to recommend are out of stock. It appears like they are between 2014 and 2015 designs.

Out-of-season good quality women and children cycling jerseys and shorts are often heavily discounted at Voler. I bought a bunch a while back that are used by my family members who are occasional cyclists.

I'm for the "ask her" approach.

Why?

Because I hear too many female customers say that bike clothing doesn't fit them right and they're tired of pink, light blue and purple.

The gesture is just as sweet as a surprise but you have the benefit of knowing that it won't be worn once and then grow mold in a closet for the next 4 years.

Let her pick something from one of the higher quality usual suspects. Better to have 1-2 good jerseys than 3-4 lousy ones. Consider it an investment in a lifelong pursuit

+1. Just depends on her taste and preferences.

I'm going to plug a local company that just started up recently - not of the fairer sex, so I can't comment as to the quality of their goods.. but they're female-specific and have had some great reviews in social media, etc. It's not cheap, but they're not any more expensive than similar locally made good quality stuff.

The only 22 year old girls I see wearing cycling jerseys are either on teams or ride 200/weekly miles. Otherwise, girls figure out a way to be comfortable on the bike without the unflattering styling of road cycling apparel. But as False_Aest advised, ask her or take her to a shop that carries Assos or Giordana.

Bike shop that carries a lot of clothes and has a woman sales person..and a decent trying on room..

These.

Most 'younger' female cyclists I see wear some sort of standard fitness garb with cycling specific shorts.

a good pair of women specific shorts would probably go longer than a jersey

Tenspeed Hero.

I mean, I have big COI on this one, but yeah, the stuff is super nice and TSH truly supports grassroots amateur women racers.

Hope this isn't too out of line, but the models showing off the clothing in this thread would look amazingly great in just about anything...

Why not get a gift certificate from your LBS and let her decide?

Why not get a gift certificate from your LBS and let her decide?

great point -- but this is intended to be a surprise in a way to say "you're awesome" and you deserve a cool jersey ----

this is a big ride for her in ways that during summer 2013 she was pedaling 12 and was doing 17 milers on relatively flat terrain. This summer, she started out with the 17 mile rides, and , I can't emphasize this part enough, but she sought out other rides locally to us. She's at college and has been riding her 'campus' bike 20+ miles a couple of times a week to get ready for this 30 miler she has this weekend.

I'm a proud dad right now in that she's doing this really all on her own as she's found her joy of cycling. Which gets me all sentimental....

thanks all for the suggestions!!!

I really like the TSH stuff --- I've got a ton of great ideas from everyone!!!

Don't surprise her with a clothing item. Have you ever had success buying her a dress? How about picking out jeans for her? Exactly. Let her suggest that she even wants a jersey or cycling specific clothes before you give her something that she is going to feel obligated to like and wear. My wife is a very competent cyclist, but she is much happier in non-cycling specific tops. I'm sure if your 22 year old daughter wanted a jersey, she would make that clear.

As someone else noted, if she's competing, training with a team, etc, then a jersey MIGHT be desired, but for now, enjoy the fact that she wants to ride and surprise her with a trip to some new cycling location this weekend.

This. I've found that my wife's taste in jerseys end up running toward things that are a bit pricier without her ever knowing the price. I think it's simply a function of the high quality folks putting more thought into design/color selection. And it turns out that her taste in gym apparel and her taste in bike apparel bear no relationship to each other (e.g., color choices).

Don't guess, ask. You'll be happy you did.
