There are some Niterider Lumina 700 and 750 light sets listed for crazy cheap on eBay. See here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Niterider-Lumina-700-Lumens-LED-Head-Solas-2-Watt-Tail-USB-Recharge-Light-Set-o-/131313821825?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e92e9e881). These retail for >$100, but someone is selling them on eBay for ~$30 shipped from China. Duh...this looks suspicious. Has anyone tried one of these, specifically, these way-discounted ones from a seller in China?

There's a TON of imitation/unlicensed products from China, always at a huge discount.

Some of it appears to be unlicensed product from the same factories where the licensed stuff is made, the rest is just fake crap that looks similar but won't come even close in performance.

Unfortunately, it's anyone's guess as to which you'll get, when you buy crap from China. You'll notice that most of these distributors have dozens or even hundreds of negative feedbacks- so they obviously don't give a rip what your experience will be.

I'll let everyone know when they arrive (although long shipping time). Seemed like it was worth the gamble for only $30.

Not long ago when I was in the market for a Garmin there was a seller registered in Italy selling every Garmin product under the sun for $18 shipped to the US.

I didn't go for it, even if there was a 1% chance someone had swiped a box of them off the back of a truck and disappeared them on fleabay.

Nor did I get the $69 3T FUNDR PRO fork while I'm in the market for a fork, even though I believe it's likely (or at least possible) it is the actual fork.

But I always want to. Hope it turns out.

Probably hot items from the factory. Friend bought a Garmin from China via eBay. Super cheap. It stopped working. Sent to Garmin. They approved the repairs. Guess the item checked out in their database... Got a new unit.

I just bought a Garmin 500 from Newegg, but basically came from China, all info on box is in Chinese, as is the manual.

Registered fine with Garmin, etc.

Ordered on a Sunday and received on Thursday.

My friend has bought some of the cheap lighting systems from Amazon, I think the name is SecurityING. They are as bright as my Niterider 1800 & Lumina 700 that I use for night mountain rides, battery life seems comparable but cost is about one sixth. If my Niterider dies I'm getting the cheap one. Even if your EBay one isn't a legit Niterider I'm sure it will do the job you want it to do.

I have these lights: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2500Lm-CREE-XML-T6-LED-Bike-Cycling-Bicycle-Front-Head-Light-Headlamp-Torch-Lamp-/360924259246?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5408c323ae

and they actually work pretty well. I have two, both with the wide angle lens. They are bright, although I doubt as bright as they claim, 2 is enough to keep things well lit in the woods at night.

This I think is the biggest criticism they get on the Amazon reviews. One of the ones my buddy bought claims to be 6,000 lumens, it is probably about a little less than a third of that. But even at less than 2,000 lumens is plenty bright enough. I run my 1,800 lumen Niterider on the lowest setting most of the time in the desert at night.

Those look like Magicshine lights (or whomever the actual manufacturer is that sells 'em, which are subsequently rebranded/resold by many). Yes they're very bright, as in crazy bright. Very affordable as well, and can be neatly tucked/arranged on the bar or stem (depending on your configuration).

I usually run mine on the underside of the bars or stem actually, pretty nice.

Just a note, if your trying to buy them, there seems to be two types, one with a smooth mirror on the inside and the type with the orange peel look. I read one review that said to try and get the ones with the orange peel for more even spread (could be false) and a better battery. Like I said, I have nothing to back this up, but the ones I linked to on ebay are the ones I bought.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were closer to 500 Lumens. But whatever it is, I'm fine with two in the woods.

oh, and you'll definitely want these: http://www.amazon.com/MagicShine-Gemini-Lights-Headlight-Includes/dp/B004WLCLQY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412629913&sr=8-1&keywords=magicshine+wide+angle

I have the original Magicshine front and rear kit from Geomangear. The battery was replaced under warranty. I also fit that wide angle lens. It's a great combination.

here's a couple pix of the spread/beam pattern on my magicshine. picture's in central park, those trees off in the distance are pretty far away.

i too bought a replacement battery from geomangear, but only because i read reports of the original battery being not so good (unsafe or quickly draining, or both--i forget).

These lil guys are great: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350846807508

How they make ANY money at $5 shipped from China is a total mystery to me.

Quite the diverse seller. For less than $9 (total) I could get a nail clipper for my dog, lingerie for my wife, and a light for myself.

INdeed.

You could go big and pick up a "Men's Stunning Quilted Travel Weekend Gym Bag Laptop Briefcase Satchel Clearance" from him/her/it just for fun.

I might be able to do all of my Christmas shopping with one ebay purchase. I will have to put a warning label on the stocking that gets a "Useful Fishing Tackle Hook Box Sea Fishing Monster with Six Strong Fishing Hooks"

I paid $0.75 for my phone cover, with free shipping.... from China. I ···· you not.

I did take like 8 months to get here, though.

I bought a Niterider from this seller yesterday, then second guessed myself after the fact. Let me know if/when you get yours. I had some "ebay bucks" I needed to get rid of anyway, which knocked the price down to under $20, so won't be that big of a deal if it doesn't workout. Plus I assume ebay buyer protection will kick in if needed...Guess I won't know for a few weeks since the shipping will take a while. I got another light to tide me over anyway, so no biggie.

Not surprisingly, some gambles turn out badly! It looks like the light is not going to arrive. I logged into my account today to find that the eBay seller "has been removed from eBay." But the form message also claimed everything would be okay. There is now, however, a string of negative feedback for the seller about not shipping the Niteriders. Not believing the "everything will be okay" line, I gave a quick call to eBay, and I can expect a refund within 48 hours. A bit of hassle, but it's worth noting that this is my first negative purchase experience on eBay.

Anything else self contained like this but a little brighter? I am willing to spend like $20. This is for my 10 year old son who bikes around after sunset. He tends to either break the lights or leave them on or just lose them.

I will get a few of these in the meantime...
