I am thinking about how I love my Campy 10sp. stuff, and I just realized that some of it is 10-12 years old. I have had shifters rebuilt and wheelsets rebuilt.
And, I have no plan to replace the stuff. And then, there's my Nitto stuff.
I think as I have aged, I have enjoyed the ride more, but the clock doesn't matter as much. My Rivendell Roadeo ( a tank) and my Hampsten SBTI are my favorite bikes and neither are light, but there handling and ride, along with being able to fit 700x32 tires, have made riding very fun.
I no longer worry about road conditions. I just " go with it".
Currently, I am riding my Hampsten, Campy Neutron wheelset. and Compass
700x32 tires.
Here.s a good one for you baby boomers.
In 1972 I had a Chevy Vega GT. A team mate on my Cal golf team had an early BMW 2002. Going over RR tracks would knock your fillings out in my Vega. The Bimmer felt like it had a rubber pad over the same tracks.
These new Compass tires make my SBTI feel like that old BMW.:)

Let me help.

I was like 11 when my dad bought the top frame and the bottom frame is older than me.

At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur (and rehashing an old argument), I still don't see the benefits of Campy 11 speed over 10 speed. 10 speed has a nicer mechanical feel to it. And most of us aren't going to notice any real benefit in terms of gearing capability between the two.

The tommasini was bought around 1996 and the colnago is believed to be an 84 (repainted in 1997)

One of the bikes that I'm least likely to part with is the Daytona 9 bike I built in 2000. I think the quality/price ratio was as high on that stuff as anything I know of. Used Daytona groups (w/o hubs) bring as much now as I paid for new in 2000, and I got hubs with mine.

The chief CART tech inspector drove a Cosworth Vega. I remember seeing it parked at the motel we stayed at in Tecumseh, MI for several events at MIS in the 1980s. I really like the looks of the early Vegas but never drove one.

You are not alone: my best friend in high school drove a Vega GT with a 327 Corvette motor in it.
I had a BMW 2002 shortly after high school and loved it for 12 years.
I have Campy 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11 speed groups on my bikes. they all work great for their respective age.
The only difference with 11 is that, well it goes to 11.

Did my performance improve because of it? noooooo, nope. had a chance to try the 11sp so i did. Much cleaner shifting, mainly because the shifters, drivetrain is new, no/little wear, not riding equip that needs to be rebuilt. most sluggish shifting is cable stretch, a too many bends problem. The shifting throws aren't as long, hoods fit my ape like hands, rear derailluer doesn't seem to be too finicking in the intial setup. i'm running 11 sp campy chains with quick links and i'm not getting the cassette clicking noise. riding a 12-25 on one and 12-27 cassette on another. didn't have a problem setting up the crank and i lost some weight there, haven't egg shaped a bearing like on my FSA crank. seems to be as realiable and as buttery smooth as the 10 sp crank that it replaced. and eventually 10sp drivetrain components will be drying up and i'll be forced to transition so it's becoming an easy pill. 11 sp stuff are on 2 Serottas, a Legend and Fierte. perfomance improvement is better spent on light rimmed wheels than the drivetrain, my opinion.

Beautiful Tommasini, should be ridden.

Thanks. It is, just not as much as the colnago. The bar tape is dirty right now. Still hangs in the living room though.

I feel the same way. Loved the 10 speed but with arthritic hands the 11s are better, and the click seems louder. Most of all the new hoods that I considered ugly are more comfy. Thinking of yet another Chorus group this time 2015 with a comp crank....

I had a 73' Vega. What a piece of crap. Lasted 60,000 miles. Burned oil for 2/3 of those. I think it cost me $3000 new. I had wanted a BMW in the worst way but they raised the price from 3800 to 4200 before I could buy one and that was a deal breaker. Could have sold my full campy Torpado but the thought never crossed my mind. Shtty car and good bike seemed a better outcome than good car and no bike. Still does.

I've put a bunch of V-8s in vegas. They are a POS but with a lot of horsepower they will flat out destroy a quarter mile, didn't have that 1/8 stuff back in the day.

The older I get the more I enjoy going backwards, I've run everything from 5 speed freewheels to 10 cassettes on these Simplex down tube shifters. I'll bet they can handle 11 as well, don't get me wrong I'm still sporting modern campy 10 on another bike.

Don,

Most importantly, what irons did you play in 1972?

Thanks.
