in reality though, if a bike fell off a car at interstate speeds it is likely in pieces, shredded, or otherwise unrideable. seen it a couple times at a bike shop I used to work at...

Agreed. That bike is toast.

Some of the components could be salvaged, but only if he is super-lucky will the frame be useable.
