New to Forum < 1 month; what is "bump", "PSA" in Classifieds?

AngryScientist

"bump" brings a thread back to the top of the page for more visibility.

"PSA" = public service announcement, sharing a good deal or beneficial information

"bump" is typically just filler text from the original thread poster to get his or her listing back to the top of the board.

PSA: Public Service Announcement.

other things you will probably come across:

across the hall - This one is specific to this forum and means velociped salon (http://velocipedesalon.com/)

TTT - not a lot of people use it here but popular in other forums, means To The Top which is same as Bump

PSA in a more stylized form:
"This is a public service announcement...with guitar!" As opens "Know Your Rights" from The Clash.

We need a facepalm smily.

A Sachsism (tee hee): According To My Opinion

and "across the hall" refers to the Velocipede Salon Forum.

I'm not sure why we tiptoe around either of these terms.

In Star Trek, "Return of the Archons" they were afraid of Landru.

Shortenings, not acronyms. It's only an acronym if it is pronounced as a word. Thus, NASA is an acronym; FBI is a shortening.

Thus, NASA is an acronym; FBI is a shortening. The term I've always used for abbreviations such as FBI, DVD, etc., where each letter is pronounced separately is "initialism." I agree that an abbreviation of initial letters of a group of words is an acronym only if the abbreviation is pronounced as a word, e.g., SNAFU—situation normal, all fcuked up; ATMO, etc. And some acronyms are composed of more than just the initial letter of each word, e.g., Benelux—Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg.
