I am a fan of Nitto handlebars and some of their other stuff, but why does stuff like this http://www.jensonusa.com/!Cnu1Xpp31kailhWMw8FhIQ!/Nitto-M18-Front-Rack?utm_source=FRGL&utm_medium=organic&gclid=CjwKEAjw456hBRDQ4eqg8MzA2W0SJABI2gJ8sdhJrvGj hgOy3a4I3hdl7DhYUoRGzCgzm97EcWtmEhoCjUfw_wcB cost so much? Their heavy duty touring racks are only slightly more expensive than this sort of thing and in my opinion a much better value. Why spend $135 to support a handlebar bag or a small basket? Am I missing something?

It seems well made.

That being said, I bought my cetma rack for less and I've ridden people on it, not just light bags.

Overpriced for sure.

It's hand made in labor costly Japan. Does that make it better than a similar rack made by machines operated by people earning $1 an hour ? Up to you.

Nitto stuff is beautifully made and and well-finished. It will always meet/surpass specifications without excess weight to meet them. I have Nitto racks where those things matter to me on my beautiful Rivendells and a Blackburn rack on my MB-3 rigid mtn. bike where I primarily value sturdy and dependable.

That video is awesome. Thanks for the insight, though I am still in favor of cheaper alternatives, I do agree Nitto makes great products.

Comparing a bag support to a touring rack and trying to assess value based on the load they can carry is not quite a 1:1 comparison. They are both specialty products that are well made and reasonably labor intensive, and made to suite different needs.

This is pretty off topic, but that's an awesome video. Here's my favorite line: "Our staffs have never been into triathlon. So, we don't even know what triathlon is."

I have a lot of Nitto components. With all the crazy prices for Chinese carbon frames, I can't understand complaining about Nitto's pricing. My Nitto components are engineered to last a long time, some of the new stuff, not so much.

Nitto components are top shelf - superior functionality and aesthetics. You can't top that.

The only slight negative (if you want it call it that) is that they aren't the lightest stuff available, but IMO that's a plus, not a minus.

If there is a hierarchy of bicycle racks I would say having a builder craft one when he makes your frame would be at the top, Nitto at the next level and the other less expensive ones such as Velo Orange filling in the lower levels.
All of them will hold your bag but only some will have the aesthetics to please.

They look GREAT, they are well known and made, and the work for MANY years to come. IMO nitto, and Tubbs are the only way to go, other than having a builder build you 1

Nitto stuff is "expensive" because it's worth it. And it's not really that expensive.
