bar end shifters

I was cruising ebay and ran across a number of listings for Shimano bar end shifters that the seller claims are both 8 and 9 speed. I have a set of Shimano bar end shifters in my parts bin that I've never used that say 8s on them.

Will these things index with a 9 speed cassette?

I happen to be selling some bar end shifters on eBay. If you go to the auction, you'll see that one of the two pictures shows a sticker indicating that they are compatible with Shimano 7400 and 7700 - ie. 8 and 9 speed.
