I have some old Smartwool ones but don't seem to be able to get them any more in the same thickness. I also have a pair of Woolly Boollies by defeet. Any others people have found?

Cheers

These aren't 100% wool, but might work (I selected "extra cushion" on the options list, so not all of the ones shown are wool, modify as required)

I am a darn tough fan. The ones I get are not super thick, but they have other choices.

I buy most of my socks from rei - smartwool and wigwam.
Voler also has woolie boolie - defeet, which i like, but there is a lot of shrinkage (even in cold H2O)

Like my woolie boolies but love my darn tough socks. I use the hiking weight grey/black ones. Great cushioned footpad

Swiftwick makes merino socks. Really good stuff and thicker than their usual sock.

I have some darmtough work socks that I am happy with so might look at the hiking thickness ones for cycling.

Thanks for the help

Are these suitable for summer use?

Are these suitable for summer use?

Maybe not the thicker ones, but they have a variety of thicknesses. (you'll find the pull-down menu on the left side)

I use mine for winter non-cycling applications (boots) and they're good for that. Can't really remember which ones I got.

Darn Tough and Swiftwick are my favorites, over Smartwool and Icebreakers by a good bit.

Try the smart wool Phd Nordic Socks in a medium.

I will 3rd or 4th the Swiftwicks. Head and shoulders above all others in my sock drawer when it comes to a thick wool sock and that includes Deffet, Smartwool, Craft, Giro, Sock Guy, Specialized, and a few others.

May need to try Darn Tough.

I'm a long-time Smartwool sock wearer with a new favorite brand: Point6.
Get 'em at Sierra Trading Post:

ps. And they're made in the land of Moots: Steamboat Springs, CO.

Pearl Izumi had a line of thick wool socks several years ago, work great.
They are good to about 35F, especially if you wear thin summer socks underneath. I hate booties so this approach eliminates that.

Darn Tough has a bunch of options within each style:
-no cushion (light), bottom cushion, full cushion
-different heights (no-show, 1/4 sock, crew, over the calf?)
-merino or CoolMax
My local shop carries the full range, so I have to be careful to pick out the right pair.

This is the one that works best for me in cooler weather:
http://darntough.com/men/men-s-work/standard-issue-crew-light

Warm, lasts for years, doesn't droop.

I don't have room in my bike shoes for anything thicker, but if you want something thicker & warmer, try these:

Of course, if you do wear them out, they'll replace them, no questions.

Another Darn Tough fan. Can't add much to the above except to agree that they make many styles and thicknesses and most come in wool or cotton and they are almost indestructible.

Thanks for the replies guys. Great thread (no pun intended).

I have worn a variety of socks but most of them are DeFeet WoolieBoolies. I have several other longer, thicker pairs of some type of wool blend that I use for deep winter riding.

My feet don't play nicely with thin socks in my cycling shoes, so I have taken to wearing wool socks year-round. The heat is not really noticeable to me with the heavier socks, oddly enough. I tend to wear the older socks that I have, which are more worn and a bit thinner, in the really hot weather. They wick well enough for me.

Always on the lookout of great socks and this thread has given me more info and options. Thanks again all.
