Paceline cycling cap update

I spoke to Walz this week and the caps are back from the printers and are in the queue for sewing. So we are on schedule for a delivery to me in approx 2 weeks.

We ordered 69 caps total which generated a donation of $138 to the site. The donation was sent and confirmed received by Keith today. So thank you to everyone who ordered that made that happen.

There are 6 extra caps that will be available AFTER all caps are sent for the prepaid orders.

I have the caps in hand and they look great. The quality is up to par with every other Walz cap, which is excellent.

There is one small issue that we need to address. The yellow color is not exactly what I was expecting. I have spoken to Walz and we have confirmed that they made the caps to the specs that were requested and approved. But the final color is brighter than expected. It is a little bit brighter yellow when it's printed. It's about 1 shade off, closer to 038 than the 037 that was spec'd. This kind of stuff happens when you are dealing with colors. Unless you have a physical sample in hand, it is impossible to know exactly what the final result will be. The end result being that we are going to keep the caps and send them out.

I would like to point out that I have shown the actual caps to a few different people and they all love them. Including Walz. I have no issue with the yellow and will be happy to wear mine. It is just slightly different than I was expecting. Not bad. Just different.

So with that, if anyone is truly torqued about the yellow being different, then please PM me and I'll speak to the mods about what we can do.

All right suckers. I have been able to match up all but a few payments with my master spreadsheet. I have PM's out to the remaining suspects who paid by check to confirm their identity.

The envelopes for the caps have been prepped and I am printing shipping labels tonight. I will try and get them all pack tonight. These caps should all go into the mail Wed at the latest.

I had a bomber of Piraat Ale while verifying the payments and ship to addresses.

Of the 68 caps that were ordered, I included a little surprise in a dozen randomly chosen orders.


There are 6 caps remaining. To the folks who requested the extra caps, I will need you to PM or email me and we'll make sure what size you want and what is left. cmg, dzxc, marsh and dogdriver are the ones I have down as showing interest. If anyone else is interested in a cap, please let me know. Once we know who is getting what, I'll send a payment link.

It was a little loose (size small) on my small melon, but then I remembered that it's cotton, so I doused it in hot water and threw it on high in the dryer for 20 minutes.... now fits perfect. Some wet phone pix.....

And FYI, I think we are almost sold out of the extra caps (3 S/M and 4 L/XL) caps. I am waiting on confirmation from a few people who expressed interest but have not confirmed yet.

There MIGHT be one L/XL cap available from a Paceliner who was not happy with the result. I have an email out to him to attempt to rectify or help him sell it on. Stay tuned.

They had some points about the stitching. IMO they are valid points but I would not have noticed if they were not pointed out to me.

There was no issue with the design or me personally.

At any rate, they can choose to keep or sell their cap. Or send it to me for a refund and I'll resell. There is enough demand for it.

I wore my Paceline cap under my helmet for El Tour de Tucson last Saturday, I was concerned about being cold. Afterward I washed it (along with everything else I was wearing) in my front loading washer with whatever laundry soap we had. My hat faded quite a bit, a surprising amount. No ding on jmoore and possibly not even on Walz caps, but I was disappointed to see how it looked when I pulled it out of the washer. When they say hand wash, they may really mean it. You might want to be very careful with how you launder yours…

FYI - after the first wash, the fading stops. It's like the first wash of a new pair of jeans. I've machine washed mine probably 8-10 times, and it looks about the same as it did after the first wash, save for the stains..

I've washed mine several times in a top loading washer on warm/gentle cycle. I have seen zero fading in either cap after 10 cycles. They both look great and fit wonderfully.
