Came around the corner on a club ride - the dust was still settling. Glad we were 30 seconds slower! Another time, riding in a downpour, heard some rumbling in the trees on the side of the trail. Looked up just in time to see a 30 foot tree come crashing down in front of me... OTB, rolled and jumped up and stopped about 5 feet from the tree...

Last summer I hit a bird. Does that count?

I ricocheted off of the front side of my helmet and went spiraling backward past the folks on my wheel in a paceline.

The guy behind me asked "Did you just hit that bird?" and I said "I think so" and he said "Wow".

Not sure what happened to the bird though. It popped out of a bush on the roadside and I came up on it as it did so. Poor bird did not have time to adjust its direction and there it was.

I hit a bat once while riding through some woods just after sunset:eek:

Caught against my chest and fluttered around before I brushed him off

No bites or scratches

Thought it was a bird but a friend said not quite

Nothing big and life threatening yet:rolleyes:

Crazy stuff. How about the guy earlier this summer who was killed while walking on the beach.....a plane landed on him. What are those odds?

YIKES!

Most interesting thing that I ever encountered was while on some singletrack, 2 wild pigs, locked in battle, came rolling out of the trees and landed on the trail about 20ft in front of me. They stopped fighting, turned towards me, and stood there grunting. I thought I'd have to spend the next few hours up a tree but they took off when I started yelling & waving my arms.

And there's the various s#it that's been thrown from passing cars...
