Does anyone make compact bars in the 26.0 flavor?
Stems that have a 1" steerer and 31.8 bar clamp?
Does anyone make a good quality 1" /26.0 stem?
Thanks

There are a few different compact 26 bars out there
Bontrager
Nitto
Civia
Soma

The soma highway 1 bars are very popular. Not the lightest, but cheap, stiff, and well finished.

There are not a ton of 1in stems out there. Shimming is the common method. It looks fine.

1in (not shimmed) stems are usually used or NOS from the late 90s to early 2000s.

I would do a cinelli alter or grammo (depending on frame) and soma bars.

I've never seen a stem with 1" steerer and 31.7/31.8 mm bars. That would be kind of a forward/backward progression (1 1/8" steerers had become the norm before 31.7/31.8 mm bars were introduced).

I don't know of any 1" (threadless) steerer and 26.0 mm bar stems that are still produced. However, there are a few 1 1/8" steerer 26.0 mm bar stems, such as Civia, Deda Elementi, Dimension, Soma and Tange.

As mentioned, 1" to 1 1/8" threadless steerer shims work well. Which is the reason that most manufacturers stopped making stems for 1" steerers.

Get a black ano Thomson shim and call yourself aesthetically correct.

I'm going to need to put headset spacers under the stem and I'm not sure the transition from the 1" steerer to the 1 1/8 stem will look correct. Call me picky.
I think the 1"/26 stem with Soma HWY 1 bars should be the ticket.

I've always like the Deda Newton for this application. You can usually find them used for a reasonable price.

One stem I have found that fits this bill from an appearance standpoint is the Deda Superleggera. it is 1 1/8 but even with a shim the design looks right with a 1" steerer. I have one on my zank and it looks especially good with the standard diameter steel tubes.

I very recently bought a nice new Ritchey Pro stem from Bike Wagon on E Bay for 26 MM bars in -17 degrees. I needed a level stem. It was 110 MM for a 1 1/8" steerer, but with shim it would work fine. I believe he had a bunch of them for sale. $39.99 as I recall. I wanted a new Ritchey WCS stem for 26 bars, but couldn't find one. The Pro is about 10 grams heavier if it matters. It looks same as WCS. I'm a big fan of Ritchey aluminum WCS bars and stems. See no need to buy CF.

Yea, my Atlanta really looked like crap.

heh...not so much. But my stem will sit atop about 20mm of spacers.

I'm going to need to put headset spacers under the stem and I'm not sure the transition from the 1" steerer to the 1 1/8 stem will look correct. Call me picky. One way to fix that is to use an extra shim cut to the length needed for the spacers and then use 1 1/8" spacers instead of 1".

A bit of a "trick" to use 1-1/8" stem with 1" steer tube...use shims along the entire length and effectively turn the steer tube into 1-1/8". You'll need to play around with the shim and spacers height so that a 1-1/8 top cap won't bottom out on the shim or the steer tube. It looks pretty nice if you used a forged stem that is not too thick. A CNC stem like Thomson would look out of place.

On one of my bikes, a steel bike with 1" steerer, I use a shim, and I think it compliments the looks. I put the stem on top of the spacers, and the beveled lip of the shim makes a nice little touch of chrome under the thin spacer on top of the stem under the top cap. I see no need to avoid a shim.

The Cinelli Groove, original Deda Zero, 3T Mutant, and ITM Big One are a few 1" options.

You can really mix almost anything you want to mix, spacers are out there for everything. You can even use a 31.6 stem with a 26.0 bar, can't think of why you'd want to do that though. Which is the single piece that you have to use, it's the 1 inch steerer, right? You can really use any bar and stem you want with that, the 1-1/8" shims are everywhere to use any stem you want, so you can use a 31.6 stem or an older stem for a 26.0 bar. Not sure it would do anything for you, but I have a nice 110mm magnesium Easton stem (1-1/8" ) and 44cm compact bend 26.0 carbon fiber Easton bar for sale...

I'm going to go the 31.6 route with the shim. I'll ride the bike a bit as is to sort out my position and then probably get a Thomson x4.
