So..

I have this 80's track bike. It's been my roller bike for a while now. Don't see it ever riding on the streets, but maybe the track in the future...

It's built for a 27.0 post.... With that being said. What would the consequences be if I were to have a shop file around that lug to accommodate a 27.2 seatpost.

Is it doable?
Am I over looking certain things?
Is it safe?

If it's just the lug that makes it 27, I'd say no problem but have the shop carefully use a seat post reamer, not a file, then smooth with a flex hone....But not a frame builder, hopefully one of those guys chime in but cleaning up a seat tube on a newly made frame often involves more than .2mm.

Hey M… It really depends on the tubing/lug/sleeve thickness.

Most likely you could ream the seat tube to 27.2…if possible, use a sized reamer instead of an adjustable one (although I have used an adjustable one a couple times without incident).

What tubing is it?

That really shouldn't be a big deal, however, as everyone has said use a reamer not a file. The above post mentioned tubing which would be good to know because if its a French built bike it may have already had a lot taken out to accommodate the 27.0, though that's a very unlikely size for a French frame.

It's a 1980's marinoni. Columbus SL.

your good, a friend of mine had an 80's Marinoni pista with the 27.0 that I reamed out to 27.2, worked just fine. Would love to see some pics of that thing:)

Just buy the 27.0 post. It's not like they are hard to find, why would you spend any time or risk trying to make 27.2 work if you didn't have to? I have a surprisingly nice, brand new, Kalloy silver one for $20. Ping if you want it.

I have a few 27.0. I have nicer 27.2's. Truthfully... It's because I have a matching 27.2 post to my set up. It's... Gotta.... Match.... Especially if it hangs up in my living room. :)

Just been thinking about altering it.

'Nuff said. I resemble that remark. :)

You'll have no problem going from 27.0 - 27.2. Find a good shop with the right tools and you'll be all set.

Do it.

I regret not reading my bike from 26.6 to 26.8.

My guess, and total guess, that 27.0 seattube is Columbus SP. My wife's Bruce Gordon's was SP and had 27.0 seattube.

Yea. As much I want to alter it. I might just keep it as is. I've found a 27.0 post to match the group via... Here.. :) trusted paceline saves the day!

Looks similar to my buddies, hard to tell from the pics, but are the seat and down tube slightly ovalized in the mid section?

Just take a 27.2 SP and turn down on a lathe to 27.0
clamp end in the lathe and take to 27.0 cut off end still at 27.2
A heck of a lot easier than your method
I owned a 27.0 DA SA once.
