took the old steel bike out for an hour's ride this morning. it's been a long time, perhaps more than a couple years for this one. remarkable, don't remember how great this bike rides. original paint! (know, I getta get rid of that carbon seat post, if anyone has a black alumn post they want to get rid of...)

1. Of course it rides nicely. It's a Serotta. :D
2. You don't want a black aluminum post there. You want a Campagnolo post.

indeed that would work. (like the way you think ;))

Something about that photo makes the bars or stem or both look really bent. Photos can be funny at times.

cool bike.

^ Plus that wall isn't built on a level grade.

+1 on the Campy post, I still consider the post part of a Campy groupset.

On Mondays, the LBS has a slow paced recovery ride where folks show up with their alternate rides - single speeds, fixies, etc. Last time, I rode my restored 40 year old STEEL Maserati MT-6 road bike with Campy friction shifting.
I too had forgotten how sweet it is and how well Campy hubs roll....was grinning ear to ear....

My love for cycling began
On a purple/black CRL
I bought on eBay...built up with
Black 105 and rode until my ottrott
And now the speedvagen
As my daily rides over the years.
Love it...the bike is still in the peloton
As my wife's dear friend didn't have a bike.
Fun tuning it up this year
For her to ride on the first day of ragbrai;)

That bike rocks. I would almost try a silver post and stem to match the cranks and brakes. Either way, I like it.

Serotta steel is as good as it gets. I wish I would stop selling mine. Wife says I can never sell her CIII.

In 1997, I bought a Waterford 1200. It still looks as good as the day I built it up. Since then, I have purchased and sold three carbon bikes. Last year I bought a BMC Team Machine. It almost rides as sweet as my Waterford.

You haven't rode that "in a long time?" Aw, that's shameful. That steed needs to ridden weekly.

It's funny how one can be fooled by a new wonder bike. After you road it for two years and then took out the older steel it made you realize the truth. A high end steel frame is hard to match for ride quality.

Please don't! Go to the light and get a Campagnolo...

Steel is all I have! On the road, anyway.
Did a race on Sun with my old 853 team bike circa 1998. The other guys were stunned; couldn't believe anyone still races steel, 9sp, 32 spokes, quill stem, steel railed Turbomatic, etc.

Yep, steel has an appeal that is hard to describe. I recently picked up a Ciocc with Chorus 10 alloy. Plan was to ride it for the summer, then sell everything but the gruppo. But dang it rides so nicely, I don't think I can part with it.

perfect, reminds me of a guy, a superb talent, who showed at the Tour de Toona one year on an outdated Cannondale, (it was alumn, not steel), equipped w/duct tape and an 8 speed when 10 speed was all the rage. He won the RR, showed us all :)

Sounds like something Glen Swan would do...

Thats a lovely one. What model is that? I moved my CII out of the rotation since it rode so harsh even with Zipp 101s.

When I hop onto my locally built steel, I'm in love with the ride.

The CII feels almost too stiff.

pretty bike but you do need a Campy carbon post in it to complete the look.

Colorado CRL, circa 1994. and yes I'm leaning very heavily toward a Campy silver seat post. now if only I could find one :)

Indeed, threads like this need pics.

My 1991 Tommasini Competizione, updated with 2014 Campagnolo Veloce components, Vento wheels and original Centaur crank and brakes. Handmade by the artisans at the Tommasini factory in Italy, Columbus SL tubeset, double-butted, lugged and pantographed. Such a sweet ride!
