I have a bike on which I'm running DA7700 9 speed and I'd like to replace the STI units with "under the tape" STI's or Ergos, as I'll be using a front bag for hauling some day trip gear. Any tips on which units to use and if Campag 9-10 speed or Shimano 10 speed, do I need to use a Jtek ShiftMate? In honor of Old Potatoe, I'd like to avoid SRAM.

Thanks

Shimano Ultegra model 6700, DuraAce 7900 or shimano 105, 5700 are both under the tape but 10s.

Use same ders but gotta have a 10s cogset and chain.

Any Campagnolo but you would either need a new Campagnolo rear der. Campagnolo 10s ERGO and rear der shifts shimano 9s really well, BTW. I built more than a few touring rigs with Campagnolo 10s but shimano 9s cogsets for the same mount a front bag, issue.

Yup say no to spam.

Are bar-end shifters an option?
NOS ones are available, according to ebay listings.

Pretty sure the 5700/6700/7900 levers want matchy brake calipers, fwiw.

7700 pusher and dangler work like 7800 parts. 6700 shakes will work for what you want to do. 7900 shakes will not work for what you want to do.

Now that I think about it, 7900 levers need 7900 fder.
7900 Brakes pretty much needed with 7900 levers. All else ok.

How about 9 speed chainrings with a 10 speed chain? Would that work?

I have a 7700 group that I've thought about pairing with a set of 5700 shifters to accomplish the same thing as the OP (original poster - not oldpotatoe).

Thx!

I should add that I'm currently running canti's as well. Thanks for the help.

Yup, takes a little reduction of fder/chain clearances on small ring and biggest cog, tight fder cable, to get fder over far enough to not have chain rub in big ring/smallest cog(highest gear).
