Advise me: I've got this (another) new bike, and I'm stuck on bar tape.

Fizik tape is my go-to, but nothing seems an obvious match.
Match that saddle? The saddle is a "black" Berthoud, which has worn to look brown sometimes, black sometimes, or gray sometimes.
Cloth?
?
I'm not keen on natural leather tape.

Nice bike Sparky! My favorite tape(s) to date have been Deda cork, Cinelli gel cork and Cinelli Volee, which is a bit like tennis racket handle tape. With it's subtle gloss, the Volee might look good with that saddle. It's nice and grippy too.

Who cares! There is no tape that could possibly detract from the beauty of that bike. WOW.

I'd use black Fizik ;)

Didn't know about Fizik dark brown, interesting.
Black is always proper.

I suppose I could experiment here.

Fizik faux leather tape (honey or antique brown) is great tape. doesnt get dirty, wraps well..even the second time, perforated and classic looking....harder to find and more expensive

the Deda faux leather tape has the ugly logo which can be hidden for the most part and i found it to be short on 44cm bars...though its cheaper and available

Thanks. Yeah, it's quite something.

My phone pictures (https://www.flickr.com/photos/27988383@N06/sets/72157646475876490/) don't do it justice. Looking at it in person helps me understand all the time JPW puts into his bikes. Little details (https://www.flickr.com/photos/49353569@N00/14618283000), patiently executed. I am now good at waiting.
And it rides as good as it looks. I've been hot and cold on 650b over the years, but the ride of this one makes it for me.

Needs to be ordered from UK/Europe.

Wiggle is my usual source for this.

I've been down that road (https://www.flickr.com/photos/27988383@N06/3922028801/). It is considered appropriate here, but lacquered cloth tape it is a pain to initially install/lacquer and later remove tape (for re-cabling and such). Not sure I have the patience for it these days. Thanks for suggesting.

Not black. I'd go with tan, light blue, or even red (to match the tires).

Gorgeous bike!
If that first picture is any indication on how the black saddle "looks brown sometimes", I would go with dark brown.
I know you said you are not keen but this bike is asking for leather IMHO.
Dark Brown HandleBra corded in Baby Blue?

Shellack, not lacquer. That's pretty much what Peter does for bar wrap.

The Saddle looks a dark brown .

So ..... I'd do a dark brown HB with Baby Blue cords.

Always white for every month of the year. Now for a more important matter, how do you like the crankset? Looks like a triple? I wish that it was available in other (longer) lengths. Very nice machine, btw. Enjoy it!

I'm partial to stitched tape as I installed here on one of my folders.

It's a pain to install because it hardly stretches at all, but once installed, well worth it.

So is this a new Weigle - as in just delivered to you from JPW - or just "new to you"? Either way it's great!

I think the gold on the decals, the brick tires, and the navy frame make it tough to pick a color. But I'd say...
- If you're definitely sticking with that saddle, I'd just match the saddle (black).
- If you can match saddle and tape to the red brick of the tires, I'd do that.
- I'm a fan of white (despite minor drawbacks of needing to be cleaned more often), so I'd go white saddle, white tape, and in the future white Hetres.

As for what tape, I'm a huge fan of the Fizik Performance tape - just the regular Performance, not the soft-touch or tacky tape. It's thicker than their Superlight tape and looks and feels more like leather, but is still made of microtex so it's durable and easy to use.

Yep, a brand new Weigle.
I had the good sense to get in the queue several years ago, and here it is.

A forum member is helping me out with some antique brown Fizik tape.(Thx) I'll start with that. The stitched HandleBra is intriguing...maybe down the road.

Well I read Zipp tape comes out to about 36 grams for full wrap whereas Fizik is approx 50g, I don't think you want to be hauling those extra 15 grams on a long climb.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it said "Weigh Bar Tape Choice."

I think we all have way too much free time to be discussing this..
Why not try to match the bike? I suggest plain cork tape. It wont be perfect but is an interesting look. You can always change it.

Honestly, am more interested in how it rides. Nice i bet

it's those godawful tyres which complicate the colourway. Match to the frame colour or the saddle. Deep royal blue or black would be appropriate.

What a beautiful bicycle.

Inspirational and the tape choice looks nice as well. That will hide a lot of paw prints for sure.

looks great, I am a fan of the fizik tape myself, I just like the material and have it on all my bikes. I do like cork tape but prefer the microtex or whatever it is called. Also easy to wrap and lasts pretty nicely.

Now we need MORE and MORE pictures of this bike.

I was on Fizik tape for many years. I still like it but got the Shorex silicone tape about a month ago. I really like this better. It really is silicone. You can adjust the thickness by how tight you wrap it. I like that it doesn't have an adhesive backing. I always pulled that off the Fizik tape to keep my bars free of glue residue. I've never had any issues with tape slipping.
The Shorex tape has good grip even for bare hands and cleans easily. It's not as dirt resistant as the shiny Fizik tape but it has way better grip.

Don't think there is a brown but they have white and black if you go the neutral route.
