So this is pretty off topic. But I've been reminded on how ignorant I am because of my age.

I usually ride everyday and stream music, and the other day I was streaming best of the 80's...I really enjoy cycling to 80's music.

And the theme song to the 1981 movie Oscar came up. "Best that You Can Do" by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach. Don't know what it was, maybe the 101 degrees or being on mile 60 of 82, but I started jamming to that song feeling strangely nostalgic. Granted I was born in 79' and I was far too young to watch this movie in the theater or to really even know who Dudley Moore was as an actor from that movie.

So because of that song on yesterday's ride I watched Arthur with the wife last night, being at the last time I had really seen that was in the beginning of HBO growing up with my parents in New Jersey. Great movie.

So I started researching on Dudley Moore today. I had no clue that this man was a piano prodigy are a very celebrated comedian.

I guess I was too young to appreciate but I really thought that this guy has only been a one hit wonder. It's amazing how broad and big the world was before I was born. It's just pretty amazing. That's it.

Pretty cool.

"10" is a great and hilarious move. Interestingly, he plays a composer in the film.

"Best that You Can Do" by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach <-- that song is so darn old but rocked big time back in the day.

By the way thought you were older :D

The bar scene where he's playing the piano and recording it, simply awesome. I also loved him in Foul Play.

Watch Bedazzled. Better than all of the Hollywood stuff he did. Also gives a glimps of the kinda stuff he did with Peter Cook.

I'm so old that Christopher Cross played a party for me while I was at UT. Sailing Away hit it big just before we booked him, and he agreed to honor his $400 contract when he was about to get many times that on tour.

Shortsocks, be sure to get some of his old movies.

Awesome! We saw him play at a friend's restaurant a couple of years back just outside of Austin (Cedar Park). It was a small and fun show.

My family was heavily into sailing when Sailing Away was released. My dad wore that cassette out playing it so much. For a kid that was into metal and guitar-centric music at the time, it got a bit old... :)

Holy crap. That has to be the most bad ass story Of heard in A really long time. Thats super nuts. He was obviously someone who honors a contract, but was he a nice guy? How many people were at this show? Details!!

Lol. I pretty much spit out my coffee reading this. Damn.

Party - 400 people. He got a pretty big head for a few years. Probably back to playing small time casinos or college parties.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Each time I saw it, I noticed more nuanced funny stuff. Probably have seen it 10 times . . .

"10" is the movie that gave a lot of young boys an appreciation of classical music (i.e. Ravel's Bolero)

I remember hearing that but thanks for posting… Made me want to search and there is a lot of stuff on Youtube including this. I have never seen Bedazzled. Gonna queue that up if I can find it.

Dudley Moore was hilarious. I have had comedic nostalgia going on lately. Been watching the Cosby show from the 1980's, Bills Cosby standup in "Himself", listening to Richard Pryer and George Carlin routines (place for my stuff still cracks me up)...maybe it started when Robin Williams died. You want to see some funny stuff, roll back some Bob Newhart stage routines...just hilarious. The patience, the timing...incredible. It lacks the instant gratification of today's comedy, but the trip and the story is well worth it. That seems to be a great difference between many of today's comedians vs. prior generation...the story telling.

Anyway, I need to watch Arthur. Not just Dudley Moore, but also Liza, people forget how talented she was.

This reminds me of somebody I know who had Dave Mathews as a wedding band prior to them hitting it big.

Classic comedy back when Moore teamed with Peter "Mawaaage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bY0fdgpISc)" Cook.
