View Full Version : How's your mileage this year?

How are people doing on riding this year? Late spring and some saddle issues that side lined me in June have left me behind my goals.

Trying to get back on track for the season.

I rode twice as much this winter as I have this summer. But aside from some dead weeks due to work, I haven't done too bad. I guess my overall average has been around 60 mi/week, with some well above 100 (one 215ish week even) and some 0.

I'm ahead of schedule. Every week between 125 and 150. Although hot here in summer, getting out early makes it OK, and weather hardly ever inteferes in AM.

I am closing in on 3000 with hopes I making it to or over 4000 for the year. Riding in North Louisiana is pretty good year round. Our summer has been great by our standards.

Just ticked over 3,500 miles with completion of today's ride. Still behind my normal year by about 800-1,000 miles. The really ugly, long winter and subsequent incredibly stormy May put me way behind. If I can finagle around 6,000 miles by Dec 31, I'll call it decent due to the weird weather. Last year , was over 7,000, IIRC.

Retired the end of April and this summer has been very co-operative, weather-wise.

I'll get in 5K miles, easy.

I'm at 5000 at the moment. I live in New England so during winter months am on Nordic skis. However, I am super busy in September and October so riding time is diminished. I plan to crest 6500 for the year.

Just shy of 2000 right now. Not great for me, but not too bad. Would like to ramp it up a bit in the next few months.

I won't reach that, but I'll be close.

We did 72 today, but I start back at work after labor day.

Then it's a push to see how many I can get in before the snow flies.

We'll see how she goes......

Over 5K. Did a lot more early riding than I usually do. Having a goal (Mt Mitchell) got me motivated early. Hoping to finish over 6.5 or 7, but I'm good with whatever I get to at this point.

6,700km (4,187mi) and 100,000m (328,000ft) elevation. I think k's are about on par with previous years but elevation is a fair bit behind. Last year I finished up with 12,000k's and over 200,000m elevation.

Haven't been chasing as many hills but I think my riding time has better quality.

On the road, I just passed 2600 miles. I only had four rides before April due to the harsh winter, so that works out to about 130 miles/week for the last 20 weeks. If I could, I would ride 4-5 hours a day, but I've been doing more hard 2-3 hour rides, and mixing it up with mountain biking or gravel rides at least one or two days a week.

6,700km (4,187mi) and 100,000m (328,000ft) elevation.

That's some pretty impressive hill numbers. My mileage is 4065, but I've only gained 180,000 feet in elevation. Nice work jimmy.

Lost year. Broke other collarbone in May, lost summer and then I am traveling almost every week for a couple of days as well. Blech… Eating badly getting a winter belly. Think I'll take up knitting:butt:

It's hard not to get a few VM's where I live, about halfway up the backside of a hill. So when I leave home, I have to climb a short hill and when I return home I have to ride a longer climb. Blessing or a curse depending on how fatigued I am.

That said I wasn't foxing, I've had about 5-6 weeks off this year due to crash/injury and honeymoon, I'm a little bit behind and found it hard to spend more than 8 hours p/week on the road during winter.

Coming into spring so see if I can catch up a little bit.

I've learned the hard way a cross country move will kill a lot of mileage goals.

If you ride a lot of cross country or CX then 'hours on the bike' targets make a lot more sense. Really I think hours on the bike make a lot more sense than miles for roadies, anyway. Big difference between 100km on the flats and in the hills.

3800 logged miles since I've started keeping track in march, but i don't keep track of all my rides, and I've been riding regularly since january. so certainly over 4k, easily close to 5k me thinks! and didn't even ride for the whole month of june either.

its been a good year.

now that its starting to cool down I'm much more comfortable. been pumping out a century almost every week. can't wait til the fall weather hits. I'm tired of sweating so much

Waaayyy down from previous years:

I'm right around 3,850 for the calendar year, ~1,000 miles behind where I was this time last year, ~2,000 miles behind where I was this time in 2012.

Some of it I chalk up to lousy weather, some from solidarity with my wife who's been off the bike due to injuries or illness a lot this year, and some of it...frankly, I think I just don't care quite as much this year. Hopefully that will pass.

Big difference between 100km on the flats and in the hills. This is how I track my riding. I have no idea what my mileage is to date.

And to answer the OP: I'm having probably my worst year since the late '90's. I hoped to bounce back from the rough winter we had, but so far it's been a really down year on the bike.

Winter here in New England was a bear, as many have articulated already. That said, I'm well over 2000 and expect to approach 3000 miles by the first snowfall.

Way below average.
Rode a week in the Pyrenees in June. Since then, rode like ten times in 2 prime nyc riding months
The roads, terrain, cars, hassle just feel so uninspiring in comparison.

Really I think hours on the bike make a lot more sense than miles for roadies, anyway. Big difference between 100km on the flats and in the hills.

But if the question is "How's your mileage this year?" then responding in Hours On The Bike doesn't make any sense at all; that's the data point you save for when someone asks "How's your hours on the bike this year?"

Not all mileage queries are thinly-veiled inquiries into how hard your training has been. Sometimes people really just want to know how far you've ridden.

3,400 miles, 218 hours. I MTB a lot and count my commuting.

Been hit-or-miss on riding a lot the past few months owing to a house purchase and crazy-long commute (which hopefully will change). I still find the time to get in hours-of-power and interval workouts, but long road rides have been sacrificed to other more important needs.

With structured training and not logging commuting miles, at 5,200 miles according to Strava, I'm down this year. I'm sure the quality is up though and I hope to be adding a chunk of 508 or so at once. Veloviewer seems to be missing a bit but it does show me way behind the last two years.

low low low year for me. presently somewhere around 3100-3200 km. job that keeps me away for 2 full weeks / month with no chance to ride plus the month of august is going to basically ZERO..... due to family commitments & vacation with no opportunity to bike. too many excuses i know but i do hope to hit 6000 km...... maybe. next year as the story goes.

1,200 so far. Way, way behind by normal comparison but not terrible considering the injuries and illnesses this year - torn meniscus rehabbing till march and inner ear infection that lead to 3 months of chronic vertigo from march to june. More than half of my miles to date have been in the last 6 weeks.
