Bought a bike and it came with this mount. It sits on the head tube / steer tube.
Is it for GoPro? Thanks for the help! :)

that's the hanger for that cable that is dangling loose to hook up to the center pull brake...

(are we talking about the same thing??)

Surely this is set-up/trick/ironic question. If not, I'd bet it's a cable hanger for the zoot brakes below it.

And if you don't believe him, simply connect the brake cable to the straddle cable / mechanism hanger and bomb down your nearest hill as fast as possible.

Ok, fellas, you can cut it out with the sermon on the mount.

Funny, but not Claude Freins funny. Sometimes, when I'm annoyed at work, I still think about that. Cracks me up every time.

Ugh

We had a customer come in earlier this year with a 70's vintage Varsity that seemed virtually stock, except for the single speed rear wheel installed.

Purchased that way on craigslist...an hour earlier.

On the bars to the left and right of the stem there is a strange looking 'mount' of sorts. Almost looks like it would be for aero clipons but I can't imagine putting those on a cross bike. The picture is focused on the brake hanger however so ???

happycampyer

What, you don't use clip-on aero bars when you race cross?

This is probably an aero road bike or tri bike (P3?) set up with a centerpull brake.

It's not a cross bike. It's a cervelo with a center pull. Nothing out of the ordinary.

**buzz**....wrong sir! You're supposed to phrase your response as a question. Should be:

WHAT IS the hanger for that cable that is dangling loose to hook up to the center pull brake?

Oh interesting I had no idea a modern road bike would still use center pull brakes.

And you're probably missing the rear brake caliper because they forgot to put on the brake bridge but don't worry there's a spare rear brake under the chain stays behind the bottom bracket.

I gotta ask what the Claude Freins story is, because it sounds too good to miss.

Seems to me there was a movement afoot not too many years ago to have TT bikes use cantis cuz the cable and the lever arms are in the center of the bike and are not as exposed to the wind (head on) as side pulls. Now we see the next iteration becoming the integrated brakes (behind the front fork and/or below the bottom bracket). But , of course, the BB brakes are really just like we had many years ago.

Nothing new under the sun.

No real story, it was just a comment to another comment about a set brakes that appeared to be, at the time, vaporware. It looses everything in the explanation, but it was a play on the visual similarity of "Raines" (as in, Claude Raines, who played the Invisible Man) and "freins," the French word for brakes.

Which is why I said above that, if the OP doesn't use the brake cable hanger, he will have a [different sort of] Claude Freins on his hands, i.e., his front brake won't work, and will therefore seem to be invisible...

Perplexed doesn't begin to cover my thoughts. I'll simply ponder the decision making process that led to the use of a paper towel as a scuff guard....which surface do you suppose they're more concerned with marking?

If the seller said this either they have no clue what they're talking about, or they're BSing you.

I'm thinking this bike is stolen if the seller didn't have that cable attached and didn't know what it was. On a Cervelo.
