I am thinking about trying to build some sort of Frankenbike from the odd collection of parts in the parts bin, including a 1 inch carbon fork. The frame I am thinking about has a 1 1/8 head tube. I know Chris King makes a Devolution headset that should work, but it is pricey for a bike I am trying to build cheaply as a project. What are the alternatives to get the old fork to work?

Simple HT reducers:

~$20 retail.

Another company AC something, has an integrated 1 1/8 conversion headset (campagnolo spec) that is designed to be used with a 1inch fork. Comes in several colors and stuff...

this one...

Or, you know, lots of people on this forum are looking for 1" carbon forks. You could sell it and buy a 1.125" instead...

Do these affect performance at all, or are there any drawbacks?

Honestly? you dont notice. Back a few years ago when 1 1/8 was starting many manufacturers had bike built with a 1 1/8 front tube and were using 1 inch forks, then next year models came full with 1 1/8 forks.

Carrera did it I believe, some de rosas came like that too.
