In the spirit of acknowledging the unsung pros of music here's a link to the acoustic mastery of Jorma and Jack, aka Hot Tuna. This is how its done.

Jorma's brother Peter is renting my studio tomorrow for a rehearsal.

When he called me I answered the trivia question without being asked, his '70s band was called Black Kangaroo. Now he says it's Gray, Balding Kangaroo.

I was a roadie for 42 years for a SF band, Sons of Champlin (http://sonic.net/~ckelly/Seekay/sons_welcome.htm). Did lots of shows with the Airplane and Hot Tuna. Also Grateful Dead, Santana, Steve Miller, The Band, Eagles, Creedence, Byrds, Albert King, Ike and Tina Turner, Quicksilver, The Nice, Three Dog Night, Average White Band, Sly and the Family Stone, Canned Heat, Buddy Guy, Jethro Tull, Huey Lewis and The News, those kind of shows.

Jorma and Jack, aka Hot Tuna.

Saw them this past spring. They were great after all these years and had some fresh talent accompanying them too.

....like Spotify or Beats Music, there are reams and reams of live concert recordings from both Jorma solo and Hot Tuna that you can listen to as much of as you can stand. I'm not sure if the same are available on free streaming sites or not - I think these are official releases and so the artists get some level of royalty when you listen to something of theirs. But I'd bet there's a huge backlog of free stuff out there too. I frequently grab one of these recordings and just let it play while I'm working in my office for the morning...

When I was a ski bum back in the early '80s, I had a really good friend who was a Jorma junkie and had his acoustic finger-picking style DOWN! He and I played together pretty well on electric, but when he pulled out the acoustic and started finger picking I just sat there with my jaw hanging open. I lost touch with this guy pretty shortly after I left Telluride in 1984, but I'll be he's still playing like a monster.

You don't know Jack, if you don't know Jorma!!! Recently caught Hot Tuna in Portland sharing the bill with another great player- David Lindley.

Love all things Jorma and Hot Tuna( both acoustic and electric ). Also have a soft spot in my soul for Sons of Chaplin btw!!!!

Miss those great shows from Winterland( Sounds of the City ) and GG park in the '70's.

Jorma and Jack were both speed skaters, worked out in a rink in Berkeley. Around 1980 outdoor skates became popular and I would go to GG Park on Sundays when the road was closed and join hundreds of other skaters.

One day I'm sitting in the park with a friend, and I see Jack Cassidy on in-line skates. I said to my friend, "That's Jack Cassidy."

He says, how do you know?

I say, pretty sure I know the dude when I see him. Worked on a lot of shows he was on.

So my friend says, "Hey! Jack!"

Jack skates over and says, "Yes?"

My friend, who thought I was putting him on, couldn't think of a thing to say.

I'll see Peter in about an hour. I'll ask him about bikes.

Saw Peter Kaukenan today. Asked if he was a cyclist and he volunteered that he had a beautiful Serotta. I told him that his name had come up on a Serotta site just the day before. He went on to talk about the ownership changes. Mentioned that he rode with Gary Fisher now and then, wondered if we ever got together.

Pete would prefer to be his own guy, not compared with his brother, but when you share a name like that, well it must be tough. It's not like I'm going to spend half an hour with the guy talking about his bro.

He's a beautiful musician and a helluva nice guy. I guess he can ride a bike also.

Water Song - have that on the first Jefferson Airplane album, circa 1965. Great tuna :)
