Just ordered some items from the Assos Factory Store and wondered whether I am likely to get hit with any customs charges? Also curious about the speed of shipping; I got free shipping because the order was over a certain amount.

I got mine in two days from England to North Carolina.

The customs bill from FedEx showed up a couple days later.

I've ordered from the multiple times and have been impressed with the fast service. I don't remember the exact values, but the smaller orders (maybe less than $100) were not followed up by a customs invoice. When I've ordered larger items, like a jacket in the $200 range, an invoice followed. I believe there is a Post option, but anyone's guess as to whether this woudl squeak through.

Assos Factory Store? Tell me more!

It's got a deceptively clever name:

I guess you'll find out in a few days :) Probably a bit late to be asking this question after you've placed the order.

The way I look at this is if they slug you, as long as the total price is still attractive, then it's a good deal. Enjoy the gear.

I've ordered twice from them in the last two years. Both times the order was between $150-$200. It was FedEx-ed to me -- arrived in 2-3 days. I never was sent an invoice for custom duty.

The order from Assos Factory Outlet took closer to a week to arrive, was beautifully packaged, and I saw no additional costs. Very happy with a good deal on some great stuff.

Fwiw, with the duty I was still coming out ahead on pricing from some US dealers. So while it wasn't the super screaming deal it might have otherwise been, I couldn't complain all that much. And it was a fairly large order.

If you chose FedEx as the shipper you definitely get charges for customs, etc... If you use the other shipping options you should be ok in the US. Thats been my experience over the past three years.

Thanks to all for reports - I chose the free shipping so it is not likely FedEx - maybe I will be lucky!

Good call—the few times I've bought things from the outlet, my experience has been the same as Mnm's.

My order for two pairs of shorts was shipped on Monday; arrived in Metro STL at 10 AM Wednesday morning via FedEx.
No customs charges.

You'll get the invoice in the next few days, possibly, unfortunately.

BS "brokerage" charges, levied by subsidiaries of FedEx, UPS, and DHL.

Nope. Bought the shorts last winter. No Customs invoice.

It depends on which freight carrier they use I think.

Under $200 and you should never have a problem. Over $200 you may have a problem especially if expedited shipping is used. As long as USPS handles the package on the delivery end you "should" be ok.
