Considering running a 1x11 and trying to decide between di2 and sram cx1.
Both would use wolf tooth narrow wide chainrings.

Does di2 chain slap considerably more than sram clutch? are they comparable?

Just wondering if anyone has run di2 successfully for cx in the 1x11 (or 1x10)?

Thanks for any insight.

the clutch on the sram cx1 will save you the head ache over a none clutch based rear der.

I'm running campy11 on a sram cx1 ring. the only time I've dropped a chain, so far, happened when my clumsy self didn't put the bike back down with not so much grace and finesse after a barrier. Luckily, this was only practice.

I've trailed ridden my crux pretty hard and it seems to do great over the rough stuff, but i think a clutch rear der. would just put my mind at ease.

I have run Sram 1 X 10 for years on the CX bike with great success. This season I will actually be able to comapre the Di2 2 x 11 bike against a Sram CX 1 x 11 bike. Should be fun. I know Ben Berden from the Raleigh/Clement team had his bike set up last year as a 1 X 10 Di2 shifting bike. His bike was set up to shift the rear with both right and left shift levers.

di2 does absolutely zero for chain slap, it's no different from any non-clutch RD in that respect... so from that standpoint there's no contest.

IMO one of the great advantages of di2 is the front shifting, by going single front you lose that.

I'll be running di2/hydro brakes this cross season (36/46 up front) on my Gaulzetti - a buddy who rides same size should be building something up with a CX1/hydro group on loan from SRAM HQ so I should be able to compare them but not for at least a week or two. If Shimano bring out a clutched RD that I could swap into my gruppo I'd be very interested.

It may not make it in time for this CX season, but you could get the best of everything and run 1x11 DI2 with the new M9050 clutched DI2 RD.

Also, I ran 1x10 for the last three years with just a K-Edge keeper on a standard chainring and never lost a chain. Don't overthink things...

Another nice effect for the CX1 is the chain line... That, the clutch and the Fat tooth make dropping a chain damn near impossible. The long throw cage will also allow a big range of gearing at the back.

Obviously not what you're asking but I dropped chains all the time last season on a 1x without a clutch. AND using various chain keepers. Including the Paul (which I don't recommend in the least).

Very interested in reports trickling in on the CX1 this season.

I'm trying out Red + X9 clutch this season. I didn't opt for a fancy ring (if you saw my bike you'd see why :p)). Fingers crossed.

One thing I haven't found in any reading is will you get the same effect with a non-CX1/Force22 crank (say 2012 Red/Force) and a Wolf Tooth chainring combined with the CX1 RD? There doesn't appear to be anything different/magical with the crank itself. Maybe the chainring aligns better than the WT?

Dumb question time: what's the clutch for on the CX1/X-pedigree rears?

Eliminates chain slack therefore preventing a dropped chain.
