OK,

Campy I am proficient in, Shimano not at all. I bought a LX group and have some questions on the crank install.

I need all the BB spacers since my BB is 68mm - does (1) go on the NDS and
(2) on the DS?

How do you tighten the (2) crankset halves together - with the plastic nut that I don't have the correct tool to install? What is the correct tool.

I tried to search Shimano's tech docs but nothing came up.

Thanks,
Jeff

There's destructions w the BB, but IIRC if you're using a clamp-on f der its 3 spacers (2 thin and 1 thick) on the DS and 1 thick on the NDS.

You need the tool or it won't work. You can get that tool separately or built in to a BB wrench

i lost the plastic tool you're supposed to use to tighten the plastic preload bolt and I've been using random objects that happen to fit in it ever since. (wrenches, pliers, bolts)

but the shimano product# for the tool is TL-FC16

It came with 3 spacers of the same thickness and it does space it to 75mm, so I guess what I did is correct?

Yea, I figured I would need the tool.

Thanks,
Jeff

The Park BBT-9 is another tool that works well for this. http://www.parktool.com/product/bottom-bracket-tool-bbt-9

Yes for spacers since it is 68mm w/o a 'e clamp' front der..lotsa grease inside the BB shell.

Yep, tighten hand tight witha wee plastic tool. Yer LBS will have one..they used to come with cranks, no mas.

Grease onto spindle as well or youer are looking at creak city.

MUST use a torque wrench for the fixing bolts..the 5mm ones..lok at sticker, about 10 NM...

Tool...

Wishful thinking - more like LDBS - 40miles away and they are not the greatest.

Thanks for the info.
