I have to say that it's not going to happen. I wish there was a good option, I would like to have a bike that I can ride to work when I don't want to sweat

When I saw this thread, I was thinking they had finally produced something other than marketing B.S. Not sure I believe that this is the way to go, but a lot of people have been sucked in by the idea and are waiting for it to be sold

I have a feeling this thing is total vaporware. I wish it was real, but they've been talking about it for years and all they've released is that one very well produced promo video. No prototypes, no product demos- I cant even find a single photo of anyone holding one of these wheels aside from their marketing material.

If it's real, what is taking so long? Why hasn't every bike website tested one yet?

Yeah, I posted this a while ago, and couldn't find much or any followup on the nets. Size is problematic for battery storage, but the styling is good and might have legs if it was actually built and shipped, and, worked as advertised.

I did some more searching to see if there were any updates, but I couldn't find anything new. I found articles from 2009 and 2010 though that had the same exact information that they are still promoting. It's been 4+ years and there isn't even a single working prototype ever shown?

As someone who has spent many years working in product development for startups, I'm not very confident this thing will ever happen. It looks like a typical Kickstarter-like strategy of making a very polished promo video to raise money, and then take that money to figure out how to make the thing work. Unfortunately, with years of delays and not a single working prototype, my guess is they can't get anywhere near the claimed performance.

This thread from last year about the Copenhagen wheel (http://forums.thepaceline.net/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1597674)has a first hand user report of a prototype, and statement from ORMojo in October that it would be available for sale in about 2 months and a price of about $600. It appears they have missed both targets.

As of last fall, they had only raised $2M. You could probably take a mobile app company from launch to exit on that, but for a hardware company with 25 employees and some serious engineering challenges (energy storage is hard and expensive), that isn't much R&D runway. Even if they avoid investing in manufacturing and hand-make these things as planned, I don't see them putting out 1000 working units on $2M. I think they are taking pre-orders and using that and their promo to gin up some follow-on financing. But missing very public milestones like they have doesn't exactly get investors excited to pile on more cash. Cool idea, and maybe they push the ball a bit further downfield for someone else to eventually pick up.

Correct, they have definitely missed the mark on the availability timeline. And the projected retail price is now $799.

However, you could argue that the "for sale in about 2 months" was correct - they formally started pre-order sales in December, 2013 (at $699, so you got a break by committing early), exactly two months after I posted that :p

Let's just see what happens . . .

(And your link is incorrect. Here (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=138362) is last year's thread.)
