Hi,

I recently realized that my cheap crank puller, which came with a cheap tool kit, is damaged and needs to be replaced. I'm looking for recommendations for high quality pullers for square taper cranks. I found a Park model, and a Shimano model, but I'm curious to know if I'm missing something better.

Anyone have one they really like?

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks the recommendations. I'll look around for the Campy tool.

I have a splined puller from Park, and have been happy with it. I'll probably end up getting a square taper one as well. I was just wondering if there's something better out there.

I just have the ST one and stick a loose bolt in the splined BB (large enough to act as an end cap) when I've need to remove one (say Octalink)...FWIW.

I like the Park without the handle: CWP-7

I have both park crank pullers (with and without handle) and have been happy with both!
Have you experienced problems with yours to want to try something better?

The one I have is from a (cheap) toolkit I got from Performance 5 or 6 years ago. The threads are damaged, so it won't thread all the way in to the crank arm. It worked fine until it was damaged, presumably by me, although I don't know how I did it.

I do have a park puller for splined cranks, and haven't had any problems with it.

I wasn't able to find a source for the Campy option suggested, so I got a Park one, and a Shimano one. I think they'll both be nicer than the one they're replacing.

I have three. Campy, TA, and Park. The Campy is the best.

I've got a Park I'll let go for cheap...I don't really have a need for it...the handle isn't in great condition from getting whacked with a hammer. If you only need one every so often...no big deal. If you're gonna by super bike mechanic dude, might want to look into getting something fancy-schmancy.

I like my campy tool because I get to use my campy peanutbutter wrench with it, it seems so right. I also have the park dual sided tool and a stronglight tool just in case the need arises (which it did a few months ago when I worked on a gitane tour de france).

For square taper.....My Campy tool is from the 70's and works great. I think my Shimano tool is from the 80's (Got it with a Dura Ace crank), works great, and may be "beefier" than the Campy one. I still use Campy square taper cranks on two bikes, and only prefer the Campy tool because it's "Campy". The Shimano tool works as well or better. I use both. I prefer Campy things, but if I already had a Shimano tool, or a Park tool, I wouldn't feel the need to purchase a new tool.
