I've seen this commercial a dozen or so times and it annoys the hell out of me. "It's instinct to protect leaves you free to drive." Ummm, if your definition of 'drive' is to exist in a state of inattention to your surroundings, I guess this will help you 'drive'... I was always taught that driving required thousands of decisions and calculations per second. Anticipating what other vehicles, pedestrians, etc. were going to do, making minor changes to the input.

I'm glad to know the future of driving will still involve thousands of decisions, they'll just be things like, "did i close the door?", "should I make a reservation?"... wow. talk about romanticizing distracted driving.

This car may make things safer, but also increases stupidity. Enough people already don't know how to drive, and now we give them a reason to drive even worse.

My wife's Ford vehicle has a lot of distracting gadgets, sold as an aid to driving, because you can use them hands free. "My Ford Touch", Phone, Nav, auto everything, Climate control, Sirius, HD radio, etc....all can be voice controled. It's difficult to operate all this stuff and be an alert driver. My next vehicle will be a stripped model. Will be a lot cheaper as a bonus.

Not a fan, but the promise of doing more "safer" driving is already being pushed in a remarkable way - http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/may/28/google-self-driving-car-how-does-it-work

I fully expect them to use these merely as a platform to deliver ads to people, now even while they are driving! :fight:

I can't wait until someone sues them for getting into an accident while they were "driving ".

The solution to better drivers is better drivers, but the phone companies would like you to use your data/minutes and the car companies would like to sell you cars that tell you when it's time to look out the window, so this is progress...

I dislike that ad too, showing off all the safety features in one ad would be tricky, no doubt. I've made all those mistakes at one time or another, but if I did it on one drive I would find a place to park it and call for backup.

My car will try to keep itself in a lane and has a cruise control that stays a set distance back from the vehicle in front. I don't use the lane keeper, but the cruise control is addicting.

looks like the guy in the original ad shouldn't be let loose with a pogo stick. Seriously, some people just should not be allowed to drive.

this is what annoys me. the local mall here in NJ has a tesla dealer store where you can sit in a car and check it out. look at this dashboard interface thingy!!! how can you possibly drive this car without getting distracted by this crazy thing in the dash? lots of big steps backwards in cars IMO, how is this legal when cell phone use is not?? i dont get it?
