I don't get it:

Downtube Shifters: 7/8 speed. Friction for front. Indexed for rear.

SXRD34M Rear Derailleur

A long cage rear derailleur for touring. Suitable for cassettes up to 11-34t.
- Cold forged aluminum
- 9/10 speed compatible
- With barrel adjuster
- Total capacity: 39t
- 230g

The chain tug with derailleur hanger, combined with the 120mm cassette hub, is quite intriguing.

Everything looks beautifully made too.

This is great news! Always loved Sun Tour. Cyclone and Superbe Groupo and ultra 6 freewheels. Great components in their day!

I'm really interested in seeing how the parts are....I have known sunxcd existed for a while, but haven't heard of any real ride reports...

The site quotes Junzo Kawai:
As he puts it “the market is too race-centric; carbon fiber, electric shifting, full suspension, 11 speed, doesn’t really enhance the enjoyment of cycling. In the 1970’s and 80’s we cycled to be closer to nature, for the environment, for our health, for the simple beauty of cycling.” For these reasons SunXCD will focus on touring and randonneuring components which were the focus of SunTour during its heyday.

A friend and I were just echoing those very sentiments on a ride this past weekend.

If everything they claim to be cold forged will really be cold forged, I'm excited.

It's refreshing to see a company's conviction/mission statement.

"Junzo feels the time is right to re-enter the bicycle component business. Junzo was encouraged to return to component manufacturing by his son in-law and President Taki Takimoto who also felt the time was right. Interested dealers please contact the Merry Sales Co. who will be handling distribution in the US ."

Nice to see, and I mostly like the look of the components. The DT shifters leave a little to be desired, in my eyes. They look a lot like Shimano barcons (which look odd to me when used on the DT).

The president is correct about one thing, the market is too race-centric. I hope that this venture gains traction. It is pretty cool stuff and square in the crosshairs of the emerging randonnee/sportif market.

RIP Junzo Kawai.
RIP, indeed. :(

He was 94, so let's hope the Sunxcd venture was organized to proceed without his long-term stewardship.

If there was a new classic looking all-alloy Superbe Pro group with integrated shifters/brake levers, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Superbe Pro was niiiiiiiiiice quality stuff in its day, and still is.

Very nice.

Personally, I think if you aren't able to safely brake a bike with single-pivot brakes you shouldn't be out riding.

That Zullo photo was just saved to my desktop pix. Beautiful.

And SunTour Superbe was indeed superb on my bikes back in the 70's - 80's.

Integrated shifters?

They could reissue that group with 11spd indexing (downtube) and I would be more interested. An off the shelf group with downtubes and single pivots would be great. Share cable pull with campy so you could use the already fantastic ergo levers if needed.

Offer a compact, standard reach brakes, and bar end shifter mounts then watch the gravel and rando crowd swoon

Modolo brifters can do campagnolo and shimano 7 through 10.

That Zullo looks awesome to me, the way a bike is supposed to look. The new SunTour stuff looks nice as well and if it's reasonably priced I'd be tempted to upgrade to it for some of my ancient stable of bikes. I even like downtube shifters so even that wouldn't be a dealbreaker.

Now get off my lawn...

I dig the 120mm cassette hub. I wonder how many 9 or 10spd cogs you can fit one one.

Sadly, I thought that I had read ALL the tooling for Superbe and Superbe Pro was destroyed. WHO would do a thing like that?!

Probably 6, maybe 7..as in Ultra 6..when 120mm meant 5s..

I am thinking 7sd.

But what I would really like to see them do would be to use this cassette (7sd) on the 130mm spacing to give a close to no dish rear wheel with more than enough cogs to get the job done.

Anyone listening?

Anyone listening? It's easy to do that yourself. For instance, I have several DuraAce hubs (nominally 9x) set up with 7x Deore XT freehub bodies.

As an aside, SRAM derailleurs are completely unable to cope with something like this if you use something sensible like a 13T smallest sprocket, but that's probably no surprise.

The Grand Bois version has only 5spd & narrow 6spd cogsets available. Don't think you could squeeze more than 6 cogs on with current chain widths.

When you liquidate assets, you liquidate assets.

I don't see much possibility for full groups to hit the market. I don't think there's enough capital or market demand to make that happen.

Sadly, I thought that I had read ALL the tooling for Superbe and Superbe Pro was destroyed. WHO would do a thing like that?!
