I guess I have finally given in to the idea that I prefer the positioning of compact bars, This creates a bit of a dilemma for me since I have a number of vintage road bikes and for some of these I would like to (at least try) use a compact bar, but I want to preserve the aesthetics of the quill stem. I just looked this morning & it appears the Civia Emerson bar that I've used twice is not showing up in anyone's inventory, so I figured I'd ask here if there is anyone else who has found a nice "compact" drop bar with a 26mm clamp area. I'm not looking for anything exotic...simply something comparable in safety/quality to the '80s vintage bikes I'd be using it on & preferably silver vs. black. Thanks in advance.

added: doing a search, I've found a couple sold out models...also found an old post of mine in the 'marketplace' section, but I suppose since then I had tried a couple of the Civia bars but now can't find more easily...

deda piega, they are dead cheap too. I've got a pair on my bike and quite like them. they are a PITA to get into a quill stem tho

origin-8 makes a good compact bar with 26.0 clamp size. have them on my quill stemmed bikes.

Well thanks. ..looks like there are ample choices for the bar, though silver is not so common. I get it...guess that makes for a very small niche market

The soma bar comes in silver. Very nice for the price but as mentioned, these bends are a pain to get in a quill.

I think Dimension short/shallow (75/120 I think) come in a 26 clamp. QBP -- just about any shop should be able to get them, and also cheap as dirt.

ETA -- sorry, I just noticed you prefer silver. I think these are only available in black.

You beat me to it.

Nitto makes several "compact" shaped handlebars. Quite hard to find here in NA but I know a few who were happy ordering here : http://www.alexscycle.com/handlebars/road-1-2/

I got a civil Emerson from my bike store in May. I think they ordered through QBP. Is it just that nobody has any on hand, or are the distributors also out of stock?

+1 on the Soma Highway One. I was in the same boat, looking for a compact bar for my 1994 XO-3. Nice flat top and comfortable hand positions all around.
