Was the mx leader ever offered with a kestrel carbon fork?

Not the MXL, but when Litespeed made the Ti EX and AX they were often paired with a Kestral carbon fork. Shame that Eddy didn't have his crew build a proper steel fork for those bikes like Derosa did with his Ti bikes.

Nope, the really gorgeous steel fork only..later ones were threadless but still the big, beefy steel ones.

And many riders believe the steel fork plays a big role in why MXLs ride as well as they do.

Interestingly my Merckx MXL, which was ridden by Frankie Andreu in the 93 Spring classics and then back up bike for the tour, came with a lighter fork not the beefy max fork. I then picked up a MAX fork from GITA.

I much prefer the ride of the lighter fork. The Max fork just seems like overkill for most roads.

I talked with Andy Hampsten about this back in '99 on one of his tours (fab. trip btw - can't recommend enough). As I recall (and granted its been awhile so I may not have this exactly right) He said that Eddy would spec the lighter forks for many of the GC riders in tours etc, and didn't really like the MAX fork except for bigger riders and classics like Roubaix.
