I'm building up a Bridgestone RB-1 and would like to maintain the look of the original Nitto setup for the stem and handlebars. But I'm left scratching my head over my stem options.

I can't find a stem that provides the amount of rise I want for my desired seat to handlebar drop. I'd like to stay with a stem with a 72 degree angle, but maybe I'll have to compromise. I guess the issue is that the 54cm RB-1 has a short headtube (13cm).

Here's what I have:
Nitto Technomic - Min insertion to top of stem is about 150mm. This is a very long stem so if I push the stem all the way down and then bring it back up a skinch to make sure the clamp has a good grip, I have about 13cm exposed to the top of the stem. I'm trying to get this to about 10cm.

Here are my options (both too short):
Nitto Dynamic - Min insertion to top of quill is 78mm
Nitto Pearl - Min insertion to top of quill is 83mm

So the question are: Is there a quill stem out there that will give me a min insertion to top length of about 100mm? Why would there be such a large gap between the Technomic and the other two Nitto stems?

Thanks to all!

I don't think I can help you but I do have a pearl 110 in the classifieds and I also have one on my RB-1 if I can help in any way.

You want the Technomic Deluxe (dlx). It splits the difference between a Technomic and the Pearl and has a nicer finish than the stock Technomic.

I remember the RB1 coming as a complete bike with a welded Ritchey chromoly stem. It was a -6 degree.
Salsa also made a +5 tig welded chromoly stem. I always thought that they looked great on quill stem bikes.

RB1 came with something like this- but not a WCS. Force pre-dated WCS.

Description calls it 80 degree.
This is the Salsa.

Well shoot. I just posted a WTB… Nitto Dynamic 2 stem is a 90d stem and what you are looking for:) Well, it's what I am looking for! Not sure if you really want that rise but it will get the bars up for you.

Funny I've been researching similar quill stems.

The options I've found are the Nitto technomic deluxe mentioned by Christian and the Grand Compe ENE.

Cheers!

I may be reading this incorrectly, but it sounds like you have 13cm above the headset, and want 10cm (as in, a lower bar position). Is there something preventing you from pushing the stem down 3cm (like butting in the steerer)?

Soma Sutro is another longer quill stem, not quite as long as Technomic.

This is a Soma Sutro I have on one of my bikes,it also comes in silver.

Yeah, my head tube is pretty short so I can't insert the technomic any further.

The technomic deluxe looks like the winner. In further searching I also stumbled across the Nitto Lugged stem (if I decide to get crazy).

Thanks!

The Nitto lugged stem is a useful anchor.

If you do decide to go crazy, do it with Winter. It will be aesthetically and geometrically perfect.

You haven't mentioned the Technomic Deluxe, which in fact is the one you want.

Insert sound of homer simpson drooling here. "mmmmmmm....lugged stems......gurgle, gurgle, gurgle."

Thanks for posting that. I wasn't aware of that builder. Beautiful stuff!!!!!!.
