Leslie-pal, thank you for keeping this community informed. Although many of us have not met Ken personally but we have known him for many years, as long as he started contributing to this forum. The friendships forged in this place are very unique, like no other. We are a close-knitted family.

Ken-pal, we love you and we care about you deeply...obviously, you already know that, that's why you ask Leslie to post here...this road to recovery might be a relatively long one but we know you will bounce back, you always have. Take it easy pal.

Ken, I 'm very sorry to read about your accident. I second Christians thoughts,I've rode motorcycles for over 40 years and never had an accident but s*** happens, sometimes beyond our control.
Get well soon but take it slowly, the body is an amazing thing. I've had my share of broken bones, cuts and bruises and became stronger because of it.

Hi guys! One-handed typing here. Huge improvement past few days. Walking with cane, practicing climbing stairs, passive range of motion exercises on my broken left side and strengthening work to prevent atrophy on my good side. Cutting back on pain meds when not doing pt.

I saw my x-rays yesterday and there are more screws than I could count and enough ti to build a cross frame up to 54cm. Your prayers and good wishes have meant a lot.
leslie has been an angel keeping my spirits up and our life on an even keel. My rehab hospital is dog-friendly so Eric visits once in a while too.

The docs started talking about 6-8 weeks in rehab but I'm shooting for no more than 2 more weeks. Heck I don't see the spine doc for the first time until Friday and my second visit to the orthopedist's office will be 3 weeks from yesterday. He let his nurse practitioner handle my visit yesterday. So 7 weeks after my accident it's mostly good news. The reconstructed scapula is the biggest problem or, as we used to say in Business School, the critical path. It was broken in many pieces and took 6.5 hours to reconstruct so we have to be VERY careful not to stress it too soon and undo any of the repairs. Working on range of motion only and may get into strengthening exercises next month. That and the broken ribs still cause considerable but lessening pain but there is almost daily (tiny) improvement.

The rebuilt clavicle caused some sharp pain for a few days post-op due to screws, plates, incision but that is all gone already. I think cyclists will be glad to hear that an injury so common in our sport heals quickly----relatively speaking. :)

My biggest thrill and enjoyment riding my bikes was descending at 40-50mph. I knew intellectually that it was dangerous but it was my payoff for grinding up the #%@*& hill in the first place. :) Never again because I couldn't have been going more than 50mph when I hit the ground this time and I was wearing a full-face helmet, armored jacket and gloves, sturdy shoes, and jeans. In bicycle kit I would be in much worse shape and might not have much face left judging from the chin bar and face shield on my Arai helmet.

Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes. It's heartwarming to feel loved/appreciated.:banana:

Ken, up for a game of badminton?

I might qualify for thumb wrestling in the Crippled Seniors Over 70 Division.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. My physical terrorist says he thinks my recovery should be excellent if I keep working at it. Range of motion is good and I hope my surgeon gives me approval to start working on strength moves and DRIVING next Wednesday. I am so ready to regain that part of independence.

Ken is doing better every day. He is one tough guy. I'm going to un-stick this thread but feel free to continue to contribute.

When you crash because of a in-stick in your spokes.

OK my typing skills suck, thanks for catching that. Changed.
