I'm building up a bike and encountered a problem: the rear derailleur pulley is too close to the 27 tooth cog of the cassette so the chain makes a grinding noise when on that cog. It's the proper size derailleur for the cassette. Any suggestions?

For Shimano tightening the B-Screw at the back of derailleur near the hanger will lift it farther from the cogs. For Campy tighten the screw near the top pulley wheel between the cage and main body joint.
(only tighten as far as necessary)

a. stay out of that cog
b. wear headphones so you cant hear the grinding.

only kidding. easy to fix as above

Your chain is too short.
