View Full Version : Bicycling Magazine Haiku

Last year, Bicycling used a haiku contest (cycling related) to give away a bike of the winner's choice from the annual Buyer's Guide. Rhyming was not required, nor was rigorous form.

My entry, cynically designed to appeal to much of the magazine's demographic, was:

I ride. The wind. Freedom.
How far? How fast? The mountain.
To live, to climb, one.

The winning entry (out of 8,000) was:

She was a brazen Huffy
He Campagnoloed on her doorstep
and swept her off her kickstand

She chose a Serotta Nove.

Asian bikes no go
European bikes better?
Why then the haiku

(and not iambic pentameter)?

A mourning dove feeds
In a marijuana bush
And sings a high coo.

But I know quality when I read it.
