i used to use a soul run case religiously for my iphone 4, but the new 5 i got, clad in an otterbox commuter case is just too big to slip in. i would like something compact and waterproof to slip in my jersey pocket to protect the phone from sweat and rain. whatcha got?

I've heard good things from some friends who use this. Don't have any first hand experience though:

Second the sandwich bag. I use a non-waterproof but tough as nails case from Magpul.

My impression is that you can get a custom size from SoulRun. I'm not sure about that though, but I'd ask them first, especially if you've been happy with the old wallet.

Recently, I bought two different blackburn bike wallets that have lots of slots for bike tools and secure pockets for cash and id's. The smart phone is supposed to go inside, too. One fits my Galaxy, the other would work better for an iPhone. The one I use also has an elastic tube on the side that holds my Lezyne pump. It's very nice and keeps things from sliding around in my pocket, but I have a hump on my lower spin (middle pocket). I can send you a picture if you wish.

For many years, I used one quart zip lock bags and phone-sized small resealable bag from the grocery store bulk food department. They were great except for tearing after a while and sliding around in my pocket.

they work, but i wanted something more robust.

so i use these i get off ebay...strong and still transparent-enough to see whats within. a real zipper with a pull/cord makes it easy to use with gloved hands.

ps. having ability to sew means i can adjust the size to fit exactly what i want.

i also tried jersey bins...very robust, but the zipper is not particularly user-friendly. http://jerseybin.com/

sandwich bag, but i'm cheap as they come. But does your sandwich bag have a "Bon Courage" motto? I don't think so.

The answer, as usual, is obviously Rapha.

"Actually the other day Simon [Mottram, Rapha co-founder] sent me this leather wallet to put my phone and money in. I always just took a plastic bag, but now Rapha have made this, I will never go for a ride without it." -- Mark Cavendish on GQ.com

I currently use this: http://www.cascadedesigns.com/e-case/eseries/eseries-9/product

Works really well and several sizes depending on what you want to protect. I am able to fit my phone, ID, cash and keys.

I have one for my S4 and don't bike without it. Toss an ID in and some cash and I'm good to go! I also use it on the moto for my phone as I seem to always get caught in a downpour.

If Lezyne doesn't work out ....

Used small zip lock bags for a long time, but doesn't take much for them to get minor abrasions that let water vapor in. Switched to a Topeak dry bag and slit the threads to remove the mount clip from the back. (Doesn't compromise dry bag because of heat sealed 2 layer design of back panel.) Now just a dry bag without the bulky mount. A little stiffer than plastic bag, but completely waterproof. Paid about $18 on sale - $25-$30 typically.

Usually slide a few $$ and CC in behind phone, then toss in my jersey pocket. Pretty much use it for all outdoor activities.

I use this wallet from Timbuk2. http://www.timbuk2.com/pinch-phone-wallet/901.html?dwvar_901_size=7

Fits my big phone, keeps it dry, can use it while in the case, and room for cards and cash.

I use the same thing for my iphone 5. think of it as a ziploc on steroids. over time the ability to touch the plastic for phone functions has degraded somewhat, so if I really want to use the phone I need to remove it. but it absolutely blocks moisture from my phone. after the ride, I can just rinse the sweat that has formed on it and towel dry it. ready to go for next time.

I had the top end 3-ply soul run once and it never stopped condensation from forming on my phone either when in my jersey pocket during the summer but especially with a jacket over the jersey during the winter.
I don't get why people soul run...that product was a complete fail for me.

Stashers is another good option. My friend Julie makes and sells these. She is a Blue Skewer member as well.

http://www.getstashers.com/index.html

I've got a couple of them and they work great. Double sided and come with an LED light.

PS - This type of question is exactly what Blue Skewer was put together for.

I also have one of the Timbuk2 ones (an older generation; sized for a slightly smaller phone but stretches to fit my 5S with case ok) and like it fine. It was a gift, but I'd get something similar again. It is actually noticeably easier to see/use the phone through than a sandwich bag.

I use the quadlock case and if I wanted to put the phone into the pouch, it's just big enough to accomodate.

You dont need to carry your I-phone on a ride. All you need is a few bucks, a watch, and a plan in your head....

Lol at the sandwich bags with strava logo for twenty bucks:

"I used to carry my phone in a ziplock bag to protect it on long rides. It was comical to see someone that spent thousands on a bike and kit to pull out a ziplock bag to buy a cup of coffee. The Jersey Bin changed this overnight. Finally I could roll into my favorite coffee shop with the right kit, bike and phone case.

Yep... sandwich bag. I got a ton of free ALockSak http://www.loksak.com/products/aloksak sack/baggies from a bro that worked for them a while back, and they are a great relatively inexpensive ($8 for three), semi-disposable, temporarily super weatherproof option, but then I finally burned through them all and didn't want to actually pay for more.

The wife buys boxes of ziplocks that only cost me like $.05 or $.10 (totally guessing) each, and I can throw powerbar and gel chew wrappers/garbage in them and chuck them at the end of a ride.

But usually I just let the phone get all sweaty in a slim Speck case.

Otterbox preserver waterproof case for the iPhone.

Timbuk2 bifold wallet for a laminated copy of my drivers license, a credit card, and a $20 bill.

Both slip into a rear pocket and take up little space (relatively).

I'm a Zip-Lock bag man myself, but there is a caution.

The other day I paid for coffee at a ride stop and a nice person walked up and handed me back my house key. It had fallen unnoticed through a small tear in the bag's bottom seam. So occasionally check and replace those Zip-Lock bags.

The Timbuk2 Mission wallet "for Android" fits the iPhone 5/s with a thin case like a glove. That's what I use. Especially like the slots on the back for DL, cash, and ICE card.
