Is is possible to turn an 8 speed rear shamal into a 9/10 speed wheel? I was thiking you could trade out the freewheel thing...is this possible, and if not why?

I went down that path and asked the same question. You need to lace in a new hub.

If you have a VERY old set of Shamals, you can make the conversion with no problems. I am referring to the ones WITHOUT straight pull spokes. That is, the hubs are essentially Record hubs drilled with 16 slotted spoke holes.

We got a ti 9spd conversion kit for Zips Shamal Sl's, the original design. I think it was Action Tech.

I purchased a set of black Shamals on Ebay. They are truly sweet to behold. I have yet to ride them--I need to build up Dave T's Legend! They will be the appropriate match.

Get a conversion cassette! At a minimum it should allow you to run 9spd...
