So school is out and I can go for longer rides in the early morning which I prefer. Anyway on Monday I went for one of my favorite rides from Sequim out past Port Angeles to a gorgeous lake and back home it is about a 65-70mi's in distance and 4-5 hour ride. Well it got me thinking I really like that 60-80 mile distance it provides a great variety of roads, scenery, and terrain. Being that it is summer and we are supposed to be out riding our bikes I thought this post would be appropriate.

What is your favorite distance you like to ride, and terrain?
Have a great day.

45 miles with 4500 ft of climbing. I was my favorite guy and it was my favorite distance...when I was drinking beer afterwards. During the ride when on the undulations it was fun, but there were times in the heat of the day and standing up where it was not so.

Many variables, including sleep, weather, and mood make it hard for me to give a good answer.

I like a full day on the bike to really separate myself from the daily routine: rolling 200-300k or a 1000'/10 miles century. It's hard to commit to that kind uninterrupted of time, these days...

^Congrats James, wish I reserved the time for that.

^^ I also like the 45 miler, with 10k ft of climbing/10 miles. Sometimes it ends up being a bit more climbing in the hills here, but it's a nice work out!

I like 85-90 miles. It's long enough to put the younger guys in a spot of bother and let the old dudes shine with endurance but not so long that I start to ache all over. If there's a lot of climbing, shave off about 10 miles.

60 - 80 miles is in the range of what I consider a real bike ride. I need to ride at least 20 miles in one direction to reach roads I haven't ridden numerous times.

100k to 130k or so. So 66 miles to about 80 or so.

Always thought 100 miles was too much of a slog. My limit's about 4-5 hours on the bike.

Here I was thinking 45-60 was a good ride.

I also think the 60-80 miles is the near ideal range. These can be done back to back with no problems, even in the mountains. As they get longer, I usually plan more shorter rides to mix in for recovery.

At least 4 hours but less than 8 is where I can really get into a ride.

I'm in the 40-50 mile range. I think anything over 50 and it's another mental game.

300k is always my favorite brevet distance. As long as the route is new to me and away from traffic, I'm very happy.

I like 3-3.5 hour rides. However far it gets me.

Sometimes I'll do longer rides if I'm with a few people, never by myself though.

Nice! I miss riding on a wooden track.

But for me 30-50 miles is a good distance, except this time of year in Phoenix we go more by temperature than distance. Anything hotter than about 100-105 is the max for me.

40-45 at a good pace is perfect for me.

don't have to devote the whole day to riding, but still feel like I put in a solid effort.

60-100 is the typical distance for me on the weekends. Hard to say which is preferred - they're always unique, depending on the terrain, pace, who shows up, whether there is an ice cream store at the end, etc....

Weekdays, obviously much shorter - and these seem to be the hard ones to get motivated for....:help:

24 hours of solo MTB racing has always been fun. I try to do it once a year. Something to look forward to and prepare for during Spring.

Agreed. I also enjoy 600k more than 400 as that thin line between overnight ride or not is blurry there and I find myself looking for the finish and wanting off the bike more on a 4.

80-100km is about all my back can handle now, but back in the day anything less than 150km was a quick short ride.

40-70 miles with at least one long tempo climb and a winding descent is what I prefer. Anything more than that is pure fantasy, and my current reality limits me to 1.5-3 hr rides at longest.

Thanks for the great reply's. Tomorrow is a quick 2 hrs in the foothills of Hurricane ridge then home and have fun celebrating the 4th with family and friends. I would really enjoy doing those rides Velotel describes on his "no lines" rides now that looks like fun.

Have a great 4th and weekend.

Meet me up in Niwot some early morning and we can spin around the west county where I live, or, after 5:00 any weekday afternoon near the central republic. Serious here, just getting miles in.

45-60 mile usually on saturday. any more and you'll be riding in over 90 degree heat. Can't drink enough to stay hydrated.

Every ride is a good ride. In season my favorite is a tough CTC double century or one of the longer brevets--wonderful scenery, memorable routes, great people.

Appreciate it but with my nanny-ing schedule..'maybe' an hour right at sunrise before piling in the car to go to Broomfield..I do love the nanny gig but lotsa hours, very tough..much harder than retail.

We have a number of routes to choose from that are 45 to 80 miles and I can leave from my house.. Depending on the route I get from 1500 to 5000 feet of climbing. My favorite rides are probably in the 45 to 65 range. I get home I am ready for a beer and a little relaxation.

Big fan of a 50- 60 mile ride with a small group of fast guys. Two and a half to three hours of hard riding that does not so beat up so that you can't enjoy a afternoon MTB ride with the kids
