bikes generally belong to teams. kurt stockton owns that bike.

Most pro's don't get the bikes... Sad but true, as for most "pro's" (those getting a paycheck) in this country it would mean a 50% pay raise!...

On the other hand, lots of "pro's" get nothing more than a "pro deal" in which they pay for the bike they ride... And then, yeah, they get to keep it.

Keep in mind that most Pros don't have any reason to keep their bike, as they are going to get a new one at the start of the next season.

Eric Zabel has a rented flat full of his ex pro bikes.

the usual is that the team owns the bike. but just as often you get to keep the bike and the reason for wanting to keep it is that you sell it as soon as the season ends to get some cash. it depends on the team. or it depends who is running the team (there is a john wordin joke in there.. regarding telling everyone to turn the bikes in and then he *allegedly* sells them and keeps the money for himself).

this year we have to give the bikes back at the end of the year. last year we got to keep em. we aren't even 'pro'.. just frightfully well sponosred.

generally real team policy is that everything is owned by the team and reverts to the team at season end. reality is many teams have no use for a bunch of worn out beat up ex- pro bikes so they are often just forgotten about....and the pros sell them for some cash.

even the best pros in the united states hardly have money to eat and train and get to the races; they rarely get to keep their bikes and often have to sell the shirts of of their own backs to keep things rolling....they do it for the love, or the shot at the big time or the fast women and easy cars or long private conevrsations and back rubs and drinking straw etiquette with e-richie.
