Don't worry they celebrate Canada day in Quebec too. There are very few people in Quebec that are not proud to be Canadian along side with being proud to be Quebecois.

But technically isn't it about the joining of the then three colonies into one country under the British Empire? Not much there for the French decendents to celebrate I should think...

Yes, happy Canada Day!
I work for a Canadian company. Technically, I have to work today but the home office is closed, oh yeah.

I see a long lunch ride in my future.

A bit more complicated than that. Canada is not the old British empire and most french people in Canada recognize this, including the 750,000 that are not from Quebec (myself included). Canada formed as a nation in 1867 and got out from under the yoke of british rule. Quebec lost the war when the british defeated france but they kept their culture and civil law system. Other French peoples (the Acadians) were killed and displaced from their lands by the british (original ethnic cleansing) in the Maritime provinces in 1755. Still we all celebrate being Canadian and appreciate all the things that living here has to offer. Canada, as a country, brought all these groups together to get everyone away from English rule not as another imposition of that rule.

On my way, with the family, to spend the day downtown head over to the Hill for some music and eat unhealthy food.

I'm spending Independence Day in British Columbia in a show of solidarity with my resident Canadian alien, Mrs. Valley. :)

Oh, and our bikes are definitely going, too.

My roots are Canadian. Nova Scotia (my dad's grandfather) and Newfoundland (my mom's grandfather). Oh yeah!

Happy Canada Day indeed!

I'm an expat--and have been living in the US (mostly) for the past 20 years or so...

(Resident alien is both a legal description, and an accurate description of my typical state of mind)

Happy Canada Day to all you Canadian Paceliners! For those of us near the border, you've a great and welcoming/bienvenue-ing nation. :)

In Montreal, Canada Day is actually a big moving day. A ton of leases begin every July 1st. People rent trucks and vans months in advance. Seriously.

Congrats you guys. Grew up in Seattle and used to take trips up to B.C often. I need to make it up there again someday!
