View Full Version : Anyone else rocking the DT shifters on a daily basis?

While my campy shifter was getting rebuilt, I jumped on my old faithful Columbus SL bike with tricolor DTs! Set some Strava koms with it, and have been having a general blast.

Couple that with the fit issues I've been having with the Dogma Ego, and I actually enjoy 2x6 way, way more.

Anyone else just rolling vintage style?

my "in-law's house" bike has DTs and BioPace! I don't mind either...

Absolutely - my daily driver has DA 9-spd downtube shifters, and whenever I'm buying another frame DT shifter bosses are big plus for me.

My daily commuter is fixed-gear, but my main weekend ride has Dura-Ace 9-speed DT shifters.

My commuter is a 1x9 with a single downtube shifter.

Do you notice any extra chain or r-der noise when at either end of the cassette?

I was commuting on my drop bar road bike with Campy 8sp until the cable snapped and I just slapped my Suntour DT group on it with Nitto Jitensha bars and Paul Love levers.
My favorite iteration of it. (http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo296/AsuoleV/MyBike/_DSF5094.jpg)

Its not as bad as some people (used to modern shifters) like to think. I can just flip the shifter and it'll drop into gear. Just takes a different mindset but I dug it.

Sure! I'm currently riding in Belgium with 2x9 DA DT shifters. My commuter in Montreal is also geared this way. I like it except when I need to change gears in a hurry.

90% of the time it's DT levers, either friction or index.

The rest of the time it's bar end shifters, again of both types.

Brifters are not allowed... ever!

I've got both my Club Special and RB-1 fitted with 10 speed Dura Ace dt levers.

Well alright then! We do have our share of luddites on this forum too!

Now, I've had 2x10 DT before but I really felt that it was too fiddly. I'd end up shifting two a time mostly. I'm guessing that's why most of you have 9s, and probably a wide range cassette?

Not in a daily basis but finally put my custom frame together after like 25 years hanging in the wall. 2x10... suntour 7 (I believe) Derailleurs and D/T shifters, I have one gear missing out of the 10 so technically is a 2x9 right now (no idea if a 8 speed cassette will help with the travel of the rd). The funny thing is that the 1st time I tried friction 2x10 with shimano d/t shifters and campagnolo rd I was running out of room, the lever was doing like a 180 degrees in the shifter levers, with the suntour stuff is just almost perfect, the lever is now doing a 180 degrees like with the shimano ones, im getting like 95 that is still descent. Wonder if a j-tek could help in those cases.

Yep. 7spd DT shifters on a relatively modern frame. I've had too many STI shifters break, so I went back to the simplicity and reliability of DT shifters.

I had 2x7 Shimano 600 DT shifters for the last several years until I switched to Campy 10 this year. Now working on a bike with Campy 10 DT shifters. I love STI for its functionality in the saddle, but DT shifters are so elegant and simple.

Colnago is regular commuter with 8-speed dt friction suntour superbe pro shifters with campy Daytona rr der and Chorus front It's simple and fun and takes me back to my early days of cycling. Also 3Rensho has 7402 DA dt shifters, but she is a garage queen.

Just switched to Silver DT shifters (from Shimano brifters) on my rando bike, only to experiment. Set up 2x10. Short ride yesterday, and I will admit I did miss the brifters. But I'm going to ride it for a couple of months to see if it will grow on me. If it does, I'll eventually move to a 2x6 set up.
