Thinking about trying the high end of an 11s Ultegra 11-28 and replace it with high end from an Ultegra 11s 12-25 to get a 12-28 11s. I can't find any Shimano technical info which tells me which cogs are loose and which are pinned in sets of three.

The low six cogs on each starts with 17 (17/19/21/23/25/28 and 17/18/19/21/23/25) so I'm thinking I should be able to swap the highest 5 cogs with each other as the transition to the 17 is in the same position on both cassettes.

Anyone have the tech specs on how the cassettes are assembled and whether this is doable?

BTW, the benefit I get it to have a 16 in a wider range cassette and give up the 11 I don't really need.

Thanks!

Get a Campagnolo wheel and a 12-27..

Not sure of 6800 cassette and not on shimano tech docs yet.

9000 is a 2 cog, 3 cog, then the rest loose AND they make a 12-28, maybe same for 6800 soon?

Peter,

Great idea, and I usually run a C11 12-29 when I head out your way, but I have a new wheelset that works w/C10 but not C11 (long story and I can give you the details if we see each other in the Peoples' Republic in July). Bottom line is I can run an S11 freehub and cassette on the hub, but can't fit an 11s C cassette on the C freehub -- inner cog binds on the spokes and it won't freewheel.

Hence the cobble job -- and running an S11 cassette with the rest of my C11 drivetrain....

The wheels are worth it:)

Gotta tell me more about the hub, why it won't use a C11...

The pdf seems to indicate that the shift ramps might not line up...?

I have a hub that doesn't work with C11, spokes hit the cassette. Adding a spacer moves the lockring into the dropout. I Dremeled grooves into the backside of the cassette to get it to clear...
