He's posted some pretty funny stuff on his Twitter feed, apparently up to a 15 minute ride on the recumbent now:

"Pedaled that recumbent for 15mins today. Almost hit a heart rate of 90. Burned 80 calories. Watch out world!"

More here:

Let's cheer for him!!!! :hello:

Dude that is absolutely insane that he's on a recumbant that quickly.

Good for him.

That is pretty amazing. Glad to see it.

I wonder if he spends the rest of his day doing 1 leg drills with his good leg.

Glad to see he's recuperating well. I am surprised he didn't say he's ready for the TdF! It's good to be young and bulletproof.

I was on the upright trainer 2 weeks post hip replacement. The conventional wisdom today is to get moving asap.
Otherwise: GO TAYLOR!!!!

The conventional wisdom today is to get moving asap.

Yep; the idea is to get moving before scar tissue forms and limits range of motion. These days the goal is to start physical therapy right away.

This really is great news. Taylor has a great attitude and incredible determination.

I actually didn't know that. Guess I haven't broken anything in a while. Good news, for sure.

I was in physical therapy doing supported arm movements and range of motion stretching a week after my surgery to rebuild my elbow. Still had the staples in in arm from the incision.

Hurt like hell and I said all sorts of foul things to the PT I had to routinely apologize for, but I believe I have the range of motion I do today because of it.

Phinney is back on the bike sort of, and that bike is a Serotta. sort of.

Good for him.

guarantee he is spending ALOT of spare time in an oxygen tent to speed up the healing process.

I did some light work in my yard two weeks after surgery on my arm and shoulder. The Friday before, I could barely move my arm. The Monday afterwards, I could wave. The sooner to PT and moving, the faster the recovery. PT starts on joint replacement recipients within hours of post op (I've been there with my mother too many times).

Tough to see how he comes back as the same rider he was. Just a horrific injury.

Wow, those are some scary-serious looking scars. Way more than any road-rash I'ver ever gotten. Here's wishing him the best and hoping to see him back in the peloton soon. He's been a real joy to watch, both for his amazing abilities and his clowning around. :)

New interview with him posted

Read about his current training and fitness, it's pretty impressive given the initial severity of his injury. I think he's already up to my level of fitness (and soon to pass me). :bike::)

Man....so impressive.....I just cannot fathom the progress he's made. Big time respect for that. I was non weight bearing for 8 weeks after i broke my tibia last July.

He'll be back. The patellar tendon injury is gnarlier than the fracture but he's way ahead of schedule if he's already on a bike. A buddy of mine n his 50's had the same injury and it was catastrophic. The dr told him it would be 9-12 months before he could even ride a bike. It took him 4 months before he was on a beach cruiser and 6 months before he could do part of the training ride but 9 months later he was able to hang and a week ago was his 1 year anniversary and I think he's stronger now than he was a year ago. The big issue for Taylor will be climbing because he won't be able to stand and apply real pressure until the muscle is completely healed. Phinney is young enough that I would imagine he will recover quickly and he'll be racing again early next year.

He sat in with Phil and Paul the other day on The Colorado Race.
It's unbelievable how right on his predictions were for the stage as an insider
who knows and rides with those guys.

As far as his awesome recovery goes,
it must be in the "genes"
