Hi All,
Looking for a cycling computer. Something simple to clock miles/time and mph. Perhaps one day I'll be interested in a GPS unit and/or the ability to upload stats to Strava, etc but thats not my interest at this time. My initial searches left me with so many choices it made my head spin. Something wireless would be idea (as in no wire to the sensor).

I will probably put this in the classifieds once I get some input from the forum. As it stands now I have no good info to go on so I'd like to hear what people are using. I suppose if you have something for sale I'd love to hear about it as well.

Thanks!

I've seen some used trek nodes cheap. They are decent looking and ant+ compatible. Sensors that you would buy for a node would also work on a garmin if you updated later.

I liked the cateye strade wireless.
Basic functions, good size screen and battery life. No buttons - just push on the bottom edge of the unit to advance thru the screens. water resistant/proof - ride in pouring rain no issue.

I moved to GPS since I wanted elevation ( Around here is more a measure of effort than distance (many rides 10 miles / 1000')) and the Garmin 500 finally got to a price I was willing to pay.

If that cateye model appeals I have some used to sell

of course newer ones are slimmer. others have cadence and heart rate etc
I went basic for mine.

Cateye Stealth 50 ant+

Just bought another one for my girlfriend for $78usd (last one sorry from Ebay, but if you keep your eyes out). Why not have GPS when it's the same price as no GPS?

If you want heartrate... add the strap for $30ish. Want accurate (magnet) speed/cadence (add the sensor later for $30ish).... I just bought the sensor too... we'll see how it works.

I have a new ACT wireless with HRM that you can have for $10 + shipping. I put one on one of my bikes to help follow the cue sheet on a ride this spring. The computer worked fine but the HRM function seemed a bit erratic. May have been a battery issue as I used ancient ones.

Cateye Strada Wireless Slim (http://www.cateye.com/intl/products/detail/CC-RD310W/). This thing is small and very good with lots of data if you want it. I love it because it is very subtle and even the sensor is next to invisible on the bike. Less is more.

An LBS carried the Origin8 and it was exactly what I was looking for in features and larger display and affordable price. Have been using this Summer and so far so good. No long term experience.
